MWilczewskiI’m hooked and just can’t stop!I have been a constant reader for many years and a Dark Tower Junkie for almost as long! Your reviews are thoughtFUL and thought provoking! Thank you.
-
theSlavasThoughtful and insightful.I am so glad that I found this podcast. I am coming back to it after some time. Re-listening to the IT episodes after re-reading the book. Great commentary. It makes you think about King’s work in an in-depth way—a podcast for the constant reader.
-
N. ArcocorridoThoughtful and InterestingIt’s always intriguing to find out what SK fans will say about flawed or less-successful novels like Dreamcatcher, and I was impressed by the depth of analysis here! The reviews and criticism of works such as The Stand or the Bill Hodges books are always worth listening to, bc Constant Reader takes time to examine the structure of the novels, the purpose of plot lines, and the larger themes and concerns. I hope they keep doing this podcast (and keep having appearances by their dog. :-D )
-
davidtay20Listened to only 2 episodes, not for meSalems Lot the book and the Tobe Hooper tv miniseries are the two major works that influenced my lifelong interest in the genre. Listening to this guy trash my two favorite works turned me off to this podcast, which is a shame since SK is my favorite writer of all time. The episode when he was suppose to be discussing the highly-influential miniseries he spent the first twenty minutes reading his stupid fan mail. Then he proceeds to mock a generational horror miniseries of children who came of age in the late seventies, early eighties. Unfollowing.

Tfriend228Great CastI jump around and only listen to pods of books I’ve read. Reviews are in depth and I like all the tropes and kingisms he points out. Anyone that’s is a King fan should give it a listen.

TerryR75Outstanding podcast for King fans!An insightful, detailed, and thought-proving podcast that fans of Stephen King works are sure to enjoy! Far more than just story recaps or lavish praise, the podcast dives deep into literary themes, plot construction, and contemporary influences. The host is not afraid to point out where King stumbles, which makes his praise for King’s talent all the more sincere. Not to be missed!
-
iBob0422Great PodcastGreat in-depth podcast of Stephen King works. It’s thankfully not cluttered with noisy, meaningless banter like so many other podcasts. It’s an honest and educated discussion by a constant reader with other constant readers.👍👍
-
RickSiemUnparalleledI prefer Constant Reader's discussion of his thoughts and reactions to the writings of Mr. King over other podcasts that pad their shows with irrelevant banter or digressions into show biz talk and the like. If you prefer discussions of the books themselves, this is the podcast for you.

Suzy.B_91GREAT PODCAST!I have been binge listening! Waiting for more. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The Page MasterA True King PodcastI’m already nine episodes in this podcast and I love it. I love everything about Stephen King our host explains each episode and work of King in depth. Praise always to the master of horror.
-
i❤HKTerrific 🤗This has the best and most detailed information regarding Stephen King’s books and movies. I would’ve given this 5 stars, but it always has really wordy songs, playing in the background. These are fairly loud, rendering the host’s narration of the book’s synopsis, impossible to be heard. As if that’s not bad enough, there’s been drum beats and SNORING (which I thought was my husband, until I removed my earbuds).
-
jbrozerThe best podcastThank you. Best Stephen King podcast by far.

TaylorMammenNew listener, Constant Reader, but I’m betting the house on you...Greetings! Listening to my first of your podcasts as I type this (Ending of Insomnia ep.), but automatic 5 stars based on the episode list and topic formats alone! And, if nothing else but to secure my frequent return to this channel, I’m writing this review to ensure I’ll keep coming back for future episodes to hear if I’ve been “shouted out”! In any case Constant Reader, love your work so far. Sincerely, Constant Reader

redZraidaZBest Stephen King Podcast AvailableI’ve listened to more than a handful of Stephen King podcasts and this one is the best, hands down. Highly recommended.
-
Steve de los GuantesGreat analysis!I really like how he just tell us what’s happening and why it’s significant. Opinions are very measured and not hyperbolic (hi-per-ball-ick)😊👍 Pronunciation of dichotomy; first episode that deals with IT Not Dictotomy (die-cot-uh-me) I just pulls me out of focus when strange pronunciation happens. It’s my hangup I know. I can’t help myself ☺️

Q-Ball_765New account so new subscribe! My girlfriend just got me some Dark Tower ka-tet19.net hoodies for Christmas and I’m contemplating how people say that their favorite media “kept them alive.” What I think they really mean is it brought them a lot of joy in hard moments when they otherwise would’ve been really sad. Dear Mr. Stephenkingcast I’m so happy you’re doing ending reviews now I hope you never stop doing your thing. I have my life figured out now finally. This is Quinn. We are ka-tet.
-
ThatDamnHobbitGood job!Being a a writer, a hardcore Stephen King fan myself and a bit of an expert on King I've come across a few mistakes and a few opinions that I disagree with in this podcast. Despite that, this is the only Stephen King podcast that I've found that really matters. By that I mean this is the only one with an informed and intelligent host who knows his stuff and can get his points across with effectiveness. I enjoy every episode. Update: I’ve listened through again and must emphasise that this is the ideal and best King podcast, though the host, Mr. Constant Reader, is a bit much on PC stuff lol this is probably the best author-based podcast, a bit of a Professor Tolkien for Stephen King
-
bree-rexLove itGreat podcast for the fan girl that I am when it comes to Stephen king. Host makes insightful observations I never considered. I wish there was an episode about rose red. I feel like it is kind of forgotten by most people. But amazing show. Would recommend to anyone who loves Stephen king or anyone who would like to read Stephen king but is short on free time to read(his books do tend to be pretty thicc)
-
Constant Reader NickKeep up the good work!As someone that is just getting into all things Stephen King, this is just another great outlet to hear another perspective. I will definitely listen as I go through the King catalogue!
-
YourConstantListenerColorado KidDear StephenKingCast. Working my way through the SK library in chronological order and for each finished book and movie, I reward myself with the respective episodes of your excellent podcast. I’m currently reading The Colorado Kid, but to my dismay, I can’t seem to find the episode for this book. Please tell me there is such an episode somewhere, as my reading experience wouldn’t feel complete without listening to your insightful analysis. From a constant listener.

SKInsomniaFavorite Stephen King PodcastLove this podcast!! He is so passionate about his love for Stephen King and makes me excited. His voice is so relaxing. He is very intelligent and brings up points that I have not thought of. I also really like how he lists how different books and stories tie in to each other. Plus Insomnia is my favorite book and it’s nice to find someone that agrees. Lol.
-
New Amsterdam FanStephen KingI enjoy this podcast and perhaps this has been done already but I no longer have access BUT can you please review Desperation and The Regulators? Two lesser known and less popular King novels (or are they Richard Bachman books?) Either way they don’t get the attention they deserve. Many thanks.
-
MrsKK1962Takes me backConstant Reader has a voice that will capture you and take you right into the work he is reviewing. I've probably been reading Stephen King since before CR's birth, but he's given me some added insight into the books and a hunger to go back and re-read many of them. His insights are spot-on, his research inpeccable. His knowledge of the Stephen King universe stuns me. If you are a Stephen King fan, you would do yourself a disservice by not listening in.
-
fulltiltedExcellent!Really great podcast. Smart and insightful! One of the best
-
CMNeemsSharply Insightful and AmusingGreat listen for both Constant Readers and those new to King. Excellent insight from an analytical reader and also provides a great road map for your own interpretations of not just King’s work - but any fiction you enjoy.
-
Neplusultra123Live the insightsWhile I love the insights that the podcaster provides on King, it’s oftentimes very distracting and irritating when his dog is making noises during the podcast. In one episode, I kept hearing and odd noise. It was about midway through the podcast that the he we mentioned his dog was sleeping in the room. It might be a good idea to put the dog outside or at least out of the room while podcasting. Again, great work, but the sound quality, at times, leaves much to be desired. If the content wasn’t so good, the sound quality would bring this down to a 3. Correction: the dog is heard sleeping/ snoring in more than one episode. I really don’t understand why the podcaster wouldn’t realize the sound can be picked up by the mike. Had to change my original review from a 4 to a 3. This is such a simple fix.
-
kamman1226Great StuffI may be the rarest “constant reader”; a conservative. Who LOVES Stephen King! The host of this podcast (Constant Reader) is thorough, intelligent, and humorous. He gives his analysis a special touch of heart that you don’t see with a lot of podcasts. While there is a lot to appreciate from this podcast and the host, there is something unheard of in today’s society; he leaves the politics at the proverbial door. While the host has mentioned he is liberal, I have not felt uncomfortable listening to this podcast once. Something I can’t say about most other podcasts I listen to. Thank you for that! Please keep up the great work and throw a treat at your dogs for me!
-
WI_Steve83Great, thorough podcastI’ve been enjoying this podcast as I make my way through a reread of all of King’s works (and my first read of the Dark Tower series). I like the attention to detail and I think the decision to go back and look through all of the endings to King’s novels is a great way to keep the podcast going. Now all we need is episodes covering the few books neglected along the way. :)
-
MuffButtWillyFantasticA few years ago I heard about the Dark Tower, then learned about the King Universe. Since then I’ve read every book (according to multiple google lists) that associates with the Dark Tower. It was great but I wished I had someone to go over those Easter eggs I found or the ones I did it. Welp, then I found this podcast. Absolutely fantastic and I can’t thank the host enough. Obviously politically left leaning on his opinions but I can look past that.
-
Calyxia80I absolutely love this showI found this show about seven weeks ago, deep into the covid 19 situation. I love how the podcaster shares and expresses his thoughts and information and opinions. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I don’t, but I thoroughly enjoy listening. The listener emails, the responses, it’s great! Thank you for this podcast!
-
hgffvuhBasic Structure CommentsI don’t have much negative to say about Constant Reader’s analysis, opinions, or insights into King’s work, but I do have a couple things to comment on related to the structure of these podcasts. Before I get to that, I will say that CR’s depth of analysis is wonderful and his insights are well-developed and thoughtful. Even when I disagree with CR, I find his points well-argued and defensible. Now to the structural issue. CR spends an inordinate amount of time reading emails from listeners. I think this is a gracious thing to do, but I also think it’s annoying that he does this at the outset of each podcast. He definitely covers other works through his reading of these emails and, as someone who has yet to completely consume King’s collection of works, I have been spoiled inadvertently while listening. It would not be a problem if he included timestamps for listeners who want to skip the email portions and go directly to the analysis of the titular novel/collection/adaptation for each podcast. If this comes off as petulant or whiny, that of course is not my intention.
-
prizachLong time fanStarted reading King a couple years ago and it quickly became an obsession with collecting earlier editions an devouring as much as possible. The second book I read from King (Pet Sematary I believe) led me to look for a medium to discuss and dive deep in the subject. Quickly found and fell in love with the podcast and your analysis. Hooked my other King fan friends as well! I love finishing his novels and just as much look forward to the recap and thoughts on your podcast immediately afterwards. It really helps me digest what I read and imprint it more in my memory bank. Anyways, keep it up! You have a talent for dissection and analysis. I will listen to just about anything you break down over the next years. Wishing you and your family good health, long days, and pleasant nights.

cwsth29Delivery insights if the KingFirst off great podcast, I’m fairly new to listening to them. I am letter carrier or otherwise known as a mailman. I throw audible on or a good podcast to make my day go a little faster and to drown out the constant barking of dogs. I rediscovered my love of King and have a couple friends who also share my love of King. So when I found your podcast and seen the huge catalog I was super thrilled to get a more expert opinion of King’s work. Thank you for your insight and opinions of the books and stories of the greatest writer that America has ever seen or read. One last feeling I did read a lot the older King works when I was younger but the audible versions are amazing. Will Patton really brings the characters alive. Thanks again Chris the mailman

Rflagg024The definitive Stephen King companionHello Constant Reader! Ive been a King fan since I saw the cover for It on a friend’s parents’ bookshelf at 9 years old. It seemed too adult, yet so alluring. Then I saw Misery that same year and King hung out in my subconscious until I finally picked up The Wastelands at 14. Reading the intro I realized I had missed some books so I put it down, grabbed The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three in one go and had a marathon reading session. I’m so happy that my introduction to Stephen King was The Dark Tower series. After that I began reading much as your podcast goes, chronologically devouring SK books until I actually had to wait for something new. And that was 1994 so we know the good stuff that was in store. 20 or so years later, I found your podcast and was quickly sucked in by your astute, honest and heartfelt reviews of King’s works. I found you a few years back and blew through the entire podcast before falling off. So much has happened since then with the amazing return of the King. I recently started listening again and enjoyed your review of the amazing Castle Rock, the good and bad of It, and all the other new tidbits we’ve gotten since King’s fall-off in the mid-2000s. Thank you so much for providing a voice upon which to base my comparisons. You often conclude by saying long days and pleasant nights, so may you have twice the number.
-
TClaudLeeSpoilers.Listened to the Salem’s Lot and Shining Episode and was met with spoilers for other King books that I have not read yet. The host gives no warning for the spoilers.
-
pete dunzoBest Stephen King podcast.Far superior to all the other SK casts out there.
-
M LouwrensThe only SK podcast you’ll needThis is by far the best and most in depth Stephen King podcast out there. The host clearly loves what he does and it shows. There are a bunch of SK podcasts out there, this one is the cream of the crop. Long days and pleasant nights.
-
Kelvin K.JonesThe best podcast to go on your Stephen King World Journey!!!!I have been an avid listener of the podcast over the past 3 years... it’s a great place to get a different perspective of another KA-Tet member such as the host!!!! Long Days and pleasant nights!!!!
-
RushNoleOne of my fav 'castsThis is easily one of my favorites podcasts, among all the podcasts I listen to, not just Stephen King 'casts. The host is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and seems like a genuinely nice guy (even if I don't agree with his take on Storm of the Century. LOL). Seeing the notification that a new episdode has been released always puts a smile on my face. One word of warning, though, his "reviews" are not reviews in the typical sense, but include a pretty detailed synopsis. So if you haven't read a particular book and don't want to be spoiled, avoid that episode until you've finished the book. Anyway, if you're a Constant Reader, you'll love this fun and insightful podcast.
-
Jr138wer138GreatOne of the things I love that you do with each episode is when you share your experience of reading the novels - this gets me to think the same and unlock memories- putting the cultural impact of King’s works in perspective with the events of my own life. This is similar to what the public knows of King’s own personality - what his fans have learned of the man by reading his works. I’m now only 20 casts in - but now instead of jumping ahead - trolling - I’m listening chronologically.
-
Max_FosterFor fans, by a fanGreat podcast! You can tell the host has a great appreciation for the works of King, and his reviews reflect a great deal of time and effort spent considering the text and author’s intent. Highly recommended for the serious King fans out there.
-
LotiaYogiThe one and onlyDear Constant Reader, I remember my introduction to Stephen King was watching Thinner as a young girl with my teenager brothers. They dared me to watch, or otherwise, eat worms. Needless to say I sat down for the movie and have been a fan ever since. Your podcast enables me to relive King’s novels and also engage in conversation with you and other constant readers on literature I truly love that is not “cannon”. You are doing excellent work and I selfishly want more!!!! I can’t wait for his newest collection of short stories to keep me occupied during these troubling times and wish you long days and pleasant nights. All good things, Michelle (quarantined in Jersey City)
-
WV LWYRThe only SK podcast I listen toBeen listening for over a year now. As with many other reviewers, this podcast has become something of a companion piece to SK’s work. I consume most of SK’s books by listening to them on audible, and it has become a regular event for me to jump from the audible app after finishing one of SK’s books to my podcast app of choice and then listen to the analysis on this podcast. Keep up the good work!
-
Andy MTOThe quintessential Stephen King PodcastWhat an excellent podcast. I am so impressed with the breadth of knowledge shown here with all things Stephen King. I’ve made it my ritual that whenever I finish a Stephen King novel that I come here and listen to this podcast. The host does a wonderful job breaking down plot points, important character developments and my personal favorite Stephen Kingisms. Well done! This host has definitely not forgotten the face of his father and proves that Ka is a wheel.
-
DillonOordGreat podcast! The host has a great enthusiasm for King’s work that is evident in each episode. It may not be the flashiest or most polished podcast out there but the content goes above and beyond. Keep up the excellent work! A++
