    A must listen
A master class in not only maritime issues, but how they affect us all.

The New (Perry-class) FFG; The “Low” of The “High/Low” Mix
Stalin said something about quantity had a quality of its own. Remember they’re the Low Part of High/Low Mix - to free up the Burkes from non-carrier BG missions. The Perry-class FFG was the “VW bug of warships” - they could do everything, they just could do anything very well. Make them for a medium/low threat environment - mission of the Perry-class FFG was to escort/defend a convoy to Europe/Asia. Don’t make them to be part of a carrier battle group - they weren’t designed for it; that’s the job for the Burke-class DDG. Fire any admiral carrier BG commander that tries to do it. Make it out of steel - aluminum burns when it takes a missile hit; remember the Stark & Sheffield - it’s criminal to make a warship out of aluminum as no ship can outrun a missile. That’s why the Burke’s are all steel. Make them all (or at least a couple) with thick steel hulls - when they get rammed by Russian/PRC ships while conducting freedom of navigation operations.

    A definite must-follow podcast
Midrats is definitely a great podcast for anyone who wants a timely maritime perspective on national security issues. Sal and Eagle One very effectively use their own experiences as part of the greater broad background on the germane maritime issues of the day for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. I am always impressed with their ability to draw upon a broad assemblage of interviewees from Naval, Joint, and Coalition backgrounds.

This podcast is only one of a few, and the best, that deals with national security in the maritime domain.

The best place for in depth Naval analysis
Company grade officer in the Marine Corps- Midrats helps me stay up to date on what’s going on and what the thinking is on the blue team. First naval podcast I listened to, sal and eagle one got me on to cimsec and USNI, as well as getting this jarhead to read “Fleet Tactics”

Intelligent and insightful discussions and commentary
If you're interested in naval and military issues, this is a show for you. I've been a regular listener for more than eight years. Sal and E1, with extensive experience and street-smarts, get knowledgeable and influential guests and ask them probing questions. Additionally, the regulars who listen live, use the chat box to kibitz, which can be as lively as the conversation.
  • Naval and National Security.
    Midrats
Midrats offers outstanding podcasts with a focus on Naval and National Security matters. Both hosts have extensive naval experience, including command, and provide an exceptionally pleasurable learning experience in the podcasts. Some of these podcasts are graduate school level discussions with other Subject Matter Experts. This is one of the best podcasts that I’ve found on the Net. No gimmicks here, just premier quality content with superior hosts and guests. If you enjoy Naval and National Security issues discussed by people that know what they are talking about and do so in an engaging, civil manner, you should listen to Midrats.

    Great podcast.. terrible audio quality
I love this podcast but your audio quality/mics need to be improved. I have to put my audio to the max just to clearly hear and it makes it hard to drive with it on

Great topics and guests but audio so-so
I agree wholeheartedly with all the reviewers praising the show’s content - it’s hard to find comparable programming anywhere else in the podcast world. The hosts are knowledgeable and have good radio voices and pacing. Please keep up the great work! Only issue is the audio quality - hard to hear even with volume turned highest. Related maybe to having multiple speakers on conference call?

    Good all around
While the podcast is generally nautical focused, it provides enough variety to keep anyone interested that like history, economics, international relations, politics or national security

    Real analysis by real people
These guys are the real deal with the sarcasm to prove it! They discuss the issues our sea services are dealing with, bring in heavy hitter guests, and hold nothing back when the subject deserves it. Highly recommended!

    Professor
I'm a Humanities Professor interested in history, naval strategy and foreign affairs. I discovered this podcast about a year ago and find it to be highly engaging. Each episode teaches me something new even when the show description doesn't grab my attention. The audio quality is usually good and after a few episodes, you'll start to think of Com. Salamander and Eagle One as friends you'd love to have a drink with. This is my go-to podcast each morning on my hour commute.

    Fascinating insight!
Great job, guys! A million times better than the talking head shows for exploring defense policy. Highly recommended for the service academies as well as officers and civilian observers.
