Campaign is long-form actual play podcast. Our current series Campaign: Skyjacks takes place in an original setting inspired by folktales and classic adventure fiction. Join Liz Anderson, John Patrick Coan, Tyler Davis, Johnny O’Mara, and gamemaster James D’Amato as they tell a tale of daring sky pirates. … Also it’s basically an elaborate re-telling of Weekend at Bernie’s.

    A rollicking good time
Extremely good swashbuckling podcast. Come for the most incredible Star Wars movie you’ve ever spend eighty hours watching, full of the verve and humor that the actual SW lacks, and stay for Skyjacks, a show that just keeps getting better and better as it continues sketching out a world of oceanic curses, heavenly assassinations, and surprisingly large chickens.

    Live Laugh Lightsaber
I am reviewing this right at the end of Star Wars, going into Skyjacks. I have never laughed so much at a podcast. Or anything for that matter, and I love this show so much. Thats why it gets a 5. There are some things that get a bit… repetitive, like Characters arguing with each other about the same things that just feel so repetitive after a while, but overall my favorite moments are when the 3 main players/ characters get sidetracked and are just joking around and riffing off each other. I get it can be annoying as a DM, but when you have 3 hilarious people in one room, its going to happen.

    Transformative
I’ve listened to this since Kat Kuhl was running Star Wars. It’s always been for me a show where the players are giving dedicated light comedy actual play under the a GM giving straight fire immersive improve storytelling. Skyjacks for me, has been a story of, after some sad goodbyes to talented voice actors, a fascinating transition playing out over its duration. From dedicated light comedy improve actual play, into deep immersive world building keeping the same tone of comedy by talented improve voice actors. This laid out over the challenges that life has thrown their way has made me interested in finding a game group of my own. It helped guide me to being a better and more inclusive player at the table. It showed me it’s possible and ok to advocate for my own time and communication in gaming as an adult with a family. I’m loving the creative and original game mechanics seeing the transition from Star Wars to their own world. The transition from dedicated, long form, light improve comedy to a more dedicated tone of inclusiveness and world building. I applaud their efforts and performance and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an actual play that is funny, explicit, and also importantly, not crude.

    A great show
This show is incredible. Campaign shows the ways that tabletop gaming can be used to create liberatiory storytelling.

    Put this on your list
This podcast is pure joy. The actors are passionate about the way their characters are portrayed - and every story they tell bring new light to who these people are. Such a wonderful story.

    Wonderful
The way you can hear the references to the Decemberists album, along with the pure creativity accompanying the story is absolutely breathtaking. The narration is incredible, a smooth and clear voice that is completely understandable

Mostly good with a questionable GM
I honestly haven’t listened to Skyjacks in a while due to James D’Amato. The setting is really intricate and intriguing, and having it revolve around sky ships is such a great choice. The man cast are all very talented improv actors and are a ton of fun listening to. However, the show loses some of its luster due to the man running the game. As the show goes on, it feels like he becomes more and more controlling, removing player agency. He frequently asks, “describe what happens?” Listens to his players tell him what happens, only to say, “great, here’s what really happens”. Ignoring everything the players just told him. That, plus listening to some of their old Star Wars episodes and hearing how badly he treated that GM as a player really turned me off to the show.

such an amazing listen. never not surprised when the table talk and narrative take me from laughing to being blown away by lore (much of it created in the moment) to crying more often than you would think and back again

    Always a good time
The energy and creativity from everyone on the show is amazing. Even the crunchy behind the scenes part is delightful to learn about. Not always perfect but they own it and make a hugely entertaining show

    Incredible
I started Skyjacks at the behest of a friend about two weeks ago and have had a hard time thinking about anything else ever since. I’m only 45 episodes in but already it’s made my heart race, brought me to tears, and had me cheering aloud. It’s truly set a new bar for the actual-play media in my life, and I am so, SO excited to see what happens next!!

    Can’t stop listening!!!
James is an excellent storyteller and the actors are so so funny. I am in love with all their characters including the NPCs! If you haven’t listened to this yet, I would give it a try- especially if you enjoy pirates.

    PHENOMENAL
i’ve listened to many an actual play in my time but this is my absolute favorite! i love the characters, love the music, love the inclusion of the luminaries, and of course love sky pirates! i heartily recommend to anyone who has a pulse (and people who don’t have them, too)

    Well acted, interesting deep storyline
Title says it all. Look forward to it every week.

    What a journey
Started with these people since their star wars days. It’s always been funny and compelling stories. The skyjacks world is robust and engaging. James has built a setting that feels new and I think a lot of credit must go to his ability to contract consultants to add vibrant life into the world that feels earnest and grounded. I highly recommend you give it a listen, it’s funny, emotional and epic. Also check out their kids friendly spin-off show Courier’s Call set in the same world!

    Just the best
I am new to RPG podcasts and this has been amazing. I can’t believe I am so invested in this show. James, Liz, JPC, Tyler, Johnny, Arne, Casey thank you and I wish I knew you in person because you all have so much fun and are extremely talented. Thank you, thank you for such a fun an enthralling experience! Can’t think of a better way to spend my 2020 drives to and from work.

Wonderful storytelling but DM overly controls
I’ve loved the podcast for a really really long time, and I love the inclusivity, the depth of story making, and the chemistry of the cast, but James D’Amato just feels like he’s more and more controlling the majority of actions of the players and taking away the freedom of their choices. He’ll say, “what do y’all think?” Then the cast responds, and he responds, “well I imagined...”, describe his vision, and just continue with his vision and not theirs. He’s talking for a majority of the time instead of the characters, shaping his story as he wants without letting creative freedom take the story to even more wonderful heights and arcs that are more true to the characters. Basically, love it, but please please give your actors freedom.

    Always A Mood Lifter
My sister introduced me to this podcast around this time last year. And it’s safe to say that this is my favorite podcast, by far. It only took me about 4 months to listen through the entire Star Wars campaign and not much longer to get caught up to Skyjacks. The Star Wars campaign feels like home. They created such perfect found family story into the Star Wars universe I know and love. It always lifts my mood since every episode sounds like everyone was having a blast making the show. I wish so badly I had found the podcast years earlier. Skyjacks is incredible. The music by Arne Parrott makes the podcast into an experience and I can’t stop listening to the album. I also love how with the soft magic element, it feels like anything is possible and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. This podcast has made me laugh and cry and it has helped to get me through 2020.

    Story is amazing
Everything about this show is just great! The player characters especially are just so amazing and lovable, it’s truly hard to pick a favorite among the crew they’re all great and their interactions really feel so authentic and meaningful. Not to mention the world building! You guys have really created something special and you can tell how much love and work went into every detail of the show. And of course I respect James a lot for being conscious about what he does with his story, it really means a lot to your marginalized listeners. Can’t wait to see where this show goes!

    Load of fun!
I am super enjoying Skyjacks! Characters and actress/actors are fantastic, story line is compelling. Getting a lot of good ideas for my own GMing too. Professional quality music and editing, enthralling world with details. Just awesome all around!

    Such a Fun Show
When Kat left I was afraid I might not like the next campaign, but skyjacks has been a pure treat! The characters are so well formed and the world building is some of the best I’ve ever heard! The music is also next level and I can not wait to see where this story goes. Thank you all for such a great adventure!

The world building alone is excellent, and it’s a gripping tale with memorable characters to boot!

    Funny, fun, and excellent music!
I freaking love the music. And it’s a good show too.

This is the best thing ever.
This is my favorite podcast, hands down, and possibly my favorite thing of media created ever? And I've watched some great shows. Campaign Star Wars is pure unadulterated chaos and joy (and I hadn't watched Star Wars before listening), and Campaign Skyjacks is the best interactive storytelling I have ever witnessed. Both shows do such a fantastic and nuanced job with character growth/development, but Skyjacks especially has super interesting relationships in a unique and epic world. I will never be able to do this show justice in words, but for the love of anything, please listen to this podcast!

See title. I haven’t found any other podcast that so brilliantly and accessibly combines fantastic storytelling and worldbuilding with humor, heart, and humanity.

    The best AP podcast
    Love these guys so much!
  • Positron0
    It’s just really good
The characters feel fleshed out, the world building is like nothing else I’ve seen, the narrative is always compelling, and it stays fun without losing tension. I’ve never been so immediately taken with a story, let alone an actual play, I can’t recommend it enough!
  • kirbs5
    Absolutely incredible in every way
The story and world building done in both the Star Wars campaign and in Skyjacks are both unreal and keep me engaged and excited to do something during quarantine. I’m not sure how I would get through it without this wonderful podcast!!! Could not recommend this enough.
  • Wizard Oest
    Great world building
The cast has quietly (and sometimes loudly) built a coherent and fantastic world. I would love to see it released as an RPG so others can play in this world.
  • Mollinet
    The best around
Campaign pod is simply fantastic. Whether you are listening to the old Star Wars edged of the empire campaign or the newer Skyjacks (genesys system) campaign you’re in for a good time. The show is consistently funny, full of heart, powerfully emotional, extremely well told, inclusive, and to cap it all off, well edited. It has the ability to swing seamlessly from comedic to heart felt all thanks to the amazing cast and crew. If you like actual play podcasts you will never find a better show than this one.

    Best podcast ever
Hands down my favorite podcast. Both campaigns have characters and stories that I fell in love with

    It’s good!
Campaign was the thing that got me back into Star Wars and it continues to be a great AP podcast if not one of the best!

    Phenomenal Actual Play
This show is awesome. I really enjoy the world building, the character development, and the compelling story that the characters are creating together. I used to be on the show playing Dref, but now I’m just a casual fan.
  • LishyV
    Almost too much fun.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this podcast has made me laugh out loud and cry. It is so good. If you’re worried that a RPG podcast is too nerdy, I assure you it is not. It’s a podcast of fantastic storytelling first and hilarity second. I listened to the entire backlog of sky jacks in like 2 weeks. Love it

An emotional story as addictive as it is breathtaking
I have struggled to figure out how to write a review for my favorite podcast, and indeed, one of my favorite stories, of all time. The Skyjacks offshoot from Campaign is just...it's wonderful. It's a richly developed world full of action and adventure, a fantasy setting that has earned, in my mind, its place among the best the fantasy fiction world has to offer. The voice actors bring characters to life, and there have been numerous times where I've gasped along with them, and had my heart break. Their triumphs are my triumphs. Their defeats are my defeats. Fiction doesn't get much better, and when you consider the team that brings this to life, there's just nothing like it.

Awesome Actual Play, All of them!!
TLDR - it’s awesome!! I’ve listened to Campaign from the beginning and though I truly miss the likes of JPC and Kat, James takes it all in stride and continues to amaze me with his story telling and his ability to bring in such amazing people. Yes, the people he wrangles to play the different characters are so talented each in their own right and they all bring so much “character” and flavor to their “in-game” personas - often times playing the part of multiple characters and often in multiple campaigns. From The amazing Star Wars actual play (which I’ve listened to in its entirety numerous times) to Skyjacks and now the spin-off, Courier’s Call (CC) every “campaign” has been a joy to follow in their own right. I won’t lie, I was on the fence after CC’s first episode but I quickly began to love all the characters come the second episode and now I’m sad that I have to wait for episode 5.

The Wonderful World of Walt D’Amato
Of all the actual play D&D podcasts I have listened to over the years, this is the only one that I feel like is out to make money...not a profit, mind you, but money. The constant hitting listeners up for money so that they can pay editors and the actors that it really takes any enjoyment out of the show. There are so many other examples of other podcasts (like the Glass Cannon Podcast, Not another D&D Podcast) that either monitized more slowly or not as obviously that it’s kind of jarring to see in comparison. While the quality of the show is good, though rather short than standard length, it just seems like James D’Amato has built this interesting fantasy world only to put up gates around it. Free to explore, only after you pay admission.

Now a Good Bird Podcast, Previously a Smart Dog Podcast
It’s a good podcast about birds. It used to be a fun show about a boy and his dog at a trade show, but now they’re pretty bird focused. (Seriously good)

    Something special
As a longtime listener to the One Shot podcast, I thought I'd give the Campaign podcast at try. I'm not that big into Star Wars, so I started with Skyjacks. I was immediately engrossed in a way I didn't expect. The characters, flaws and all, are endearing and somehow the story and pacing resemble genre fiction more than the usual actual play podcast. Truly excellent narrative role playing that I think even non-RPG fans would enjoy.
  • Gamefreakgeekgirl
James is such a good DM
Really appreciate the long form and awesome story.

    Gorgeous Listen
I’m currently focusing this on the Skyjacks campaign, but I would recommend anything from this group. There is excellent storytelling and it’s a lovely listen. You’ll laugh and find yourself picking up silly phrases; you’ll be caught off-guard when you realise you’re quite attached to the characters. Highly recommend you give this one a listen!

Fill your feed’s butt with great content
Campaign is in turns funny, heart-wrenching, & masterful. The Star Wars storyline was amazing, the Skyjacks storyline is amazing, & I only expect this trend to continue.
