Great analysis I really enjoy this podcast and the perspectives. 5 stars! Using a microphone does seem like an unfair advantage as you describe it and I would hate to see this become a trend. Should probably be a rule against it. Also having to play against teams playing up can be frustrating and it seems a bit self-serving as well. Great pod - keep it going!!

Really enjoy how he explains why he’s doing what he’s doing & where the thought process starts to get his team or players from a to b growth. Also enjoy the tidbits from his weekend games of what he recognizes good or bad team or opponents wise. Stuff we all experience but can’t always find time to talk thru w our peers.

Coach talks to slow. Meandering thoughts. Repeats himself a lot. Gabe it a shot for two episodes. Can’t do it sorry.

Haven’t listened in a bit and pulled one up the other day. Not sure what happens to Tom, but the new host just doesn’t get it done for me. IMO, the advice and discussion simply isn’t on point with best practices, methods, and player needs. Shooting discussions way too focused on perceived perfection than how kids enjoy playing and learn to shoot through that process.

Just discovered this podcast and am loving it. The content is thoughtful, insightful, and grounded in real-world coaching experience. The focus is totally on player development, not on winning. As a novice coach in a suburban kids’ league, I have found this podcast extremely helpful. Can’t wait for our next season to start so I can begin applying what I’m learning here!

I’m not sure if the podcast was cut short but episode #310 titled, “Using stats in soccer” had no mention about how to use stats in soccer.. very misleading title and honestly a waste of my time. I thought I was going to learn a bit about using stats and ended up with a bunch of opinions.. really disappointing. Hopefully other episodes are better but I don’t think I’ll be listening to find out.

Former KC Legend, Tom was my would coach us if/when one of colleagues and my childhood coach (Andy Barney) wasn’t able to be there. Tom is a good guy. Crazy to hear a voice from my childhood and teenage years. Tom, do you have any episodes with Andy Barney? It’s been a while since I’ve heard Barney’s pep talks or his recommendations of what books to read.

This podcast offers coaching insights that will benefit any youth soccer coach. The topics are delivered in way that takes a clear stance without imposing a specific view on listeners. I love it.

This is an excellent resource for coaches who are really interested in overall development of the; player, team, coach, club. Having been listening for years and even go back to “re-lisren” to past episodes often.

I really like the time line story telling of the podcast. Great insight into the preparation and dedication it takes to be a quality professional in the youth game.

I have gotten more out of this than any source aside from US Soccer‘s coaching education.

Coach - great interview iwth the HSS Sports Safety Program. After hearing that episode and researching the FIFA 11+ guidelines, I noticed that most, if not all, EPL teams use these methods of core strengthening, agility training and player movement analysis. Please try to schedule a follow up with your guest in 6 months or so!

I like it but the back round has a lot of other noises

As a new coach with a U10 team, I’ve found this to be one of the best collections of tips, techniques, and general info around. The episodes have questions generated from listeners that are usually resonating with me at some level and I can generally always find a topic I need to learn more about when I search or I can land on random episodes and find them just as enjoyable and useful. I appreciate episode 160 which has a rundown of previous episodes with some highlighted to make finding popular topics from past episodes a little easier. I listen while on walks every day and love the website and all the resources available. Great work. Thank you for making this available to all coaches - especially volunteer ones like me!

This podcast is fantastic for coaches who love to learn and get better.

I just recently discovered this podcast. I’m a recreational coach with a few years of experience. About 12 episodes in and I’m hooked. It’s really helped me think about the coaching style and priorities I bring to the field. Well organized and professional. My only comment is regarding the show notes so commonly referenced. It’s hard to follow some of the exercises (impossible when listening in a car). When I try to access them I get a message that they are only available to members. After making an account I still can’t access them.

I have been an avid listener for the last 2 plus years and truly appreciate the diverse topics, humble approach and the occasional soap-box moment. If you are a Comp coach no matter what level, this is a resource to take advantage of. Congrats on the 200 plus podcasts...keep up the great work.

A coaching friend referred me to this podcast. I’ve been coaching for several years, and wished I would have had access to this podcast when I first started coaching. There is so much practical information—presented in a manner that is surprisingly inspiring. I’m thankful for this resource!

I recently stumbled upon this podcast and have found myself methodically listening to all the episodes starting with episode #1 (sometimes multiple times). With over 10 years of coaching experience from the recreational level to Varsity high school, I have found a nugget of information in each episode that has allowed me to continue my growth as a coach! Whether I am being introduced to a completely new idea or concept, or learning a new perspective on something I have already been doing, I always come away from each episode more informed and a better coach than I was when I started listening to that episode! Better coaches lead to better players! This podcast is a “must-listen to” tool for ALL coaches to aid in their quest to become a better coaches!

As a coach with a few years of experience under my belt, I appreciate the content provided by Tom. It has a good variety of topics, I really enjoy the outside soures he's brought in, such has his recent interview with Yael Averbuch, and find the content to be accessible to anyone wanting to improve their coaching ability. There's so much to learn and remember, I've found myself listening to podcasts multiple times just to catch all that has been provided. Keep up the good work!

I really enjoy the many practical tips and activity suggestions, and I *also* appreciate the more big-picture sessions, such as #136 that breaks down being an effective coach in different scenarios: training, games, and off the field. The podcast is all around great.

I am a beginner coach, with little prior experience with the game. I cannot praise highly enough the benefits that I (and my kids) have received from this podcast and the supporting content available on the website.

I’ve been through every soccer coaching pod I can find and this is the only one I keep going back to. Regardless of your age group or experience level this has valuable insight from a knowledge, and caring coach, who is committed to coaching youth soccer with the best interests of the his players in mind. Thank you for all your work! I coach high school girls soccer in Iowa at a school where at best we will have 3-4 clubs players. I am also very eager to find ways to help them grow as young women and as players. I have been seeking out a lot of different ways to get more information and different voices on how to do and tweak things. I am enjoying the 3 part series with “zone 1” because that is giving me more ideas for the youngest players that are just getting into the game. One thing I would like to add to the podcasts is that can you name the YouTube channel you reference and Twitter page as well myself and some of the staff members you love to see ideas to get a visual and have access to this kind of information.Thank you for all your insight on development, also love the parents podcast.

Have listened for awhile and really enjoy the podcast. Especially enjoyed the latest podcast about a typical u10 practice session (since this is the age I coach). Found it very helpful to hear what another coach is trying to teach at this age level.

As a new coach looking for tried and true strategies this show has been a great resource and has made me a better coach.

There has not been a single episode where I did not learn something that I could immediately prayed for our team.

I am a parent of a 9yo girl, who has played soccer since age five. I myself knew nothing about soccer until she started playing. I enjoy hearing and learning about the game from a coach’s perspective and have been able to gain what I feel is a decent understanding of what my daughter should be experiencing. Because of this, I’m able to discern whether a particular program is meeting her needs as a player, what type of experience she needs next, what to focus on casually at home to make up the difference. I’ve also learned the appropriate and expected role of a parent of a youth soccer player. The podcast presentation is very down to earth, practical, wise, unpretentious. Even though not every topic interests me, I always check out each episode because they are just that worthwhile. Great job, and please keep up The good work.

Well organized, thoughtful and creative approach to covering challenging and unique aspects of coaching the game. Tom is good at providing drills with direction and goal orientation, advice and insight into his successes and failures. Worthwhile and helpful for coaches of all levels of training and experience.

I & my asst coach listen to Tom regularly as well as going back thru older podcasts. Tom’s info and insight have been a tremendous help in practices for our D1 BU12 & GU10 teams.

I just recently came across this podcast and have listened to a number of episodes as I prepare to take the field as coach in another new season. I find so much value in hearing other coaches, they're "mantras" of sorts to help lead players, their ideas, how they deal with situations...so to hear Tom run through his here is fantastic!

Solid content that we use to with our teams. Diamond passing, and build out of the back unlocks the positionals concepts that I have been struggling to come up with a way to understand. Thanks Tom. The pods on player evaluations has been really helpful for our small club, and helped us decided to have have a tryout and play younger players in a lower team.

I am an avid fan of soccer pod casts and this one is on the top of my list. I have been coaching for years at a high level and am the technical director for my club. I advise all our coaches from top level primer to the new to soccer grassroots coach to give a listen when they can. I found you maybe 2-3 years ago now, have leaned valuable info from every episode, and come back to the whole library over and over again, when I want to coach a point you’ve covered in the past. And as much as I’ve leaned about coaching tactics and techniques, I’ve learned more about how to be a good person as a coach. Something that often gets missed.
