PauleeGWBest Podcast in CardiologyDr. John Mandrola’s This Week in Cardiology stands out for its combination of critical appraisal of current cardiology literature and his personal opinions. He skillfully analyzes clinical trials, guidelines, and studies, focusing on methodology, biases, and real-world applicability, often challenging mainstream interpretations. I and my colleagues are enjoying to listen his podcast every week! Kudos to Dr. Mandrola and his team for the wonderful work for the cardiology community!

KatynwoofBest cardiology podcastEvery Saturday morning I look forward to riding my bicycle listening to Dr Mandrola. He brings insights into recent journal articles filtered thru his years of experience and healthy scepticism. I enjoy this podcast above all others.

Schac-manExcellent . Excellent. ExcellentThank you John for all you do . I and the two NP’s who I work with are always talking about your podcasts. We particularly respect your perspective on early consideration of palliative care . A Favorite quote from us when discussing treatment options is “ What would John Mandrola say and do” . 😀
-
emilyshaokhanThe best use of 20-30 minutesThe latest trials presented in an easily digestible format, approached with a discerning and practical eye. Discussion often includes critical comparisons to previous studies and how findings may translate to real-life practice. I think of it as a very efficient journal club and try to catch each week’s episode!

Mike D. - FloridaThank you for the podcast.I am a CT surgeon and enjoy the podcast. I look forward and listen to the new episode each week. I appreciate the data driven analyses of the contemporary literature. I feel like I have a trusted colleague and expert on my morning drive with me once every week….i wish it were more frequent. Thank you for you work, Dr. Mandrola. You are helping humanity more than you may be aware.

DatingShameA sober voice of reason, logic, evidence, and compassionI am an emergency physician who listens to Dr. Mandrola’s weekly podcast. In it he takes an unbiased look at evidence-based cardiology (and other medical topics) eschewing, at times, consensus for what the evidence does or does not suggest. As important, he brings a frank, heart-felt voice to all doctors looking for best practices and solid reasons for why they do what they do. His view is the long view - we are only here temporarily and that duration is unknowable, so make a difference in people’s lives not through professional accolades but who you are as a person. Thank you, Dr. Mandrola, for the humanity you reference and infuse in your weekly podcast.
-
BoogarDocAwesomeThis presented in a very concise manner without all of the delaying pleasantries and greetings. He gets right to the meat of the topics and gives a great analysis of the data. I learn a lot in a short period of time.
-
HearFixrSuperb critical thinkingI look forward to each podcast since John takes so much time to critique the articles and not parrot the paper (unlike JACC Podcast). John is truly an iconoclast questioning the validity of published articles. Bravo.
-
Kyle WisemanLove it!Cardiology fellow here. I love this podcast. I listen to it every week. Great way to stay up to date in a world of so much info/data. Thank you Dr. Mandrola for your efforts.

Ivan-1105ADMy favorite cardio¡ogypodcastI’m not a medical professional. At age 60 I decided to educate myself about Americas #1 killer. Over the years I’ve learned the terminology, rarely if ever have to resort to google, and thanks to TWIC should something happen in the future, I won’t sit like a deer in the headlights when a cardiologist while a cardiologist tries to create a “shared decision” protocol while I’m wondering if I live or die … not that I expect this to ever happen … but .. to s5ent or not to stent … that is the question … at least for now … many thanks … I truly enjoy listening to your explanation of the studies. I feel I’ve learned some valuable lessons …

The SwamsterA Breath of Fresh AirHe breaks through the hype, smokescreens and data massaging in search of the truth with a patient centric perspective. Highly recommend this for all practicing cardiologists.
-
iPad PaulSuperlativeMandrola: Honest critical appraisal based on well considered, fair, informed review of the available information, wrapped in a professional, warm, decent package. I listen and he speaks, yet it feels like a collaborative learning process. And, not unimportantly, all with a polished style and pleasantly listenable voice.
-
Chitown Jordan H.The oneThis is the podcast for the cardiologist young or old who is looking to do the right things. Trying to muddle through the advertising and spin and financial incentives for everything we do for people is hard, but I think John Mandrola and his team tries their hardest to do this. It is hard to say we don’t know to patients who want us to know everything. It is hard to say maybe when everyone is saying definitely yes or no. It sounds weak, but it is strong because it is honest. Thank you and your team for doing this work and helping us muddle through more efficiently. I hope you continue this for as long as you all remain passionate about it! It helps so many of us.
-
Dr AloExcellent, RefreshingLove this podcast! Between you and Dr. Alo's podcast, I should never get heart disease! Thank you!

Ms. Faith DExcellent podcast for card cliniciansThanks for keeping us abreast of the emerging cardiology research trials and keeping a critical eye towards analysis and outcomes. Great bite size podcast to listen on the way home.
-
Dave K EPCritical AppraisalAmazing podcast, probably one of the best for critical appraisal of Cardiac literature. Keep up the good fight and holding these trialists and “new fancy devices” to the standards that they should be held to. I love the skepticism and we need more of it, not just in Cardiology.
-
DosSantosRhythmScientific reflectionGreat source for information and, most importantly, scientific reflection about trials and debatable conclusions.
-

Gray DocHonest and IndependentThis guy really reads the articles not just the abstracts! What do you think about Ablation as first line for Afib rhythm control?

barefoot_girlInteresting and often entertainingI stumbled onto the TWIC podcast, liked what I heard, and went back to the beginning and have binged myself to real time. I am a dreaded NP or APC and have never claimed to be anything else. I work in a general cardiology clinic and now see almost exclusively arrhythmia patients. I appreciate the candor with which you share your interpretation (and sometimes opinion) of current studies and practices, topics and trends. I have been in cardiac nursing since the days of quinidine and torsade and strive to remain current with the many changes. Once I thought the ’literature’ was nearly sacrosanct but you have opened my eyes to the possibility of dubious results leading to practice change. Thank you for your time, energy, and contribution to clarity and critical appraisal.
-
Lenny MankinBest medicine podcast ever!I’m an academic general internist practicing outpatient medicine. Dr. Mandrola gives an evidence-based and rational approach to interpretation of the literature. I gain a lot of insight into the big picture. I appreciate his honesty and balanced view that is not driven by big pharma and the device industry. Kudos! Lenny Mankin, MD, FACP Legacy Health Portland, Oregon
-
Leslie Kay :)Critical appraisals at its finestI’m a family practice nurse practitioner and I absolutely love listening to this podcast! Not because it helps me with my everyday practice, but simply because of the way you are walked through critical appraisal of up-to-date trials. Excellent information and I love that you push back against some of the recommendations of modern medicine that may be money makers but not always the best option for health.
-
Mike EGBInspirational Example for Young CliniciansI’m a cardiology fellow currently and I almost never miss an episode. The show helps me stay up to date with the newest major trials but most importantly, sets an example of how to critically appraise evidence, to think independently, and to be honest with oneself about the clinical decisions we make. Dr. Mandrola sets an inspirational example with his balanced, humble, and intellectually honest approach to interpreting medical science and practicing evidence based medicine. I’m very grateful for his work and hope he is able to keep this podcast going for many years.
-
TMcAPNExcellent!!Such a refreshing look at not only research but medicine in general. Dr. Mandrola makes it so easy to follow, it has changed the way I practice!
-
ihgvduskcsug111Simply the best 15 minutes of any medical podcastMandrola is exceptional with his unbiased reviews and ability to explain complex statistics, even that exhausted cardiologist can understand on the way home after a long day at clinic. He is a master at not only reviewimg the latest in cardiology but has an ability to make it easy and entertaining to listen to. 5 Stars 0 Yawns.

siamak9821Redoing medical school.I’ve been a doctor for 45 years and a cardiologist for 30 years. I now feel I can look at all the information I thought were the absolute virtues in a completely different light. I’ve leant from this podcast that skepticism is and should always be an integral part of scientific research and growth. I am in the medical school again and do enjoy it immensely.
-
Academic CardiologistLove this podcastI am an academic cardiologist and I find your show interesting, provocative, and informative. I also agree that exercise should be considered a daily pill!
-
rlinskyFantasticThis podcast is an indispensable resource for all practicing cardiologists. I only wish he would do summaries of all of the evidence for a single topic in one episode. Perhaps that could be his next podcast?
-
EricThePAHi yield listeningI always appreciate the valuable insight and nuanced understanding you share regarding a variety of cardiology topics. Looking forward to hearing you at the Charleston HFpEF conference this weekend!
-
canyon45Good Medicine PodcastsIn the first 10 minutes of the July 21, 2023 episode Dr. Mandrola discusses potential conflicts of interest between device makers / drug companies and professional societies (MONITOR HF and American College of Cardiology) and ( American Heart Association and Novartis). Entering into these asymmetrical relationships with industry has always compromised the ability of physicians and physician organizations to speak plainly. I appreciate Dr. Mandrola taking a stand on these issues.
-
fl card fellowTo the point and clinically relevantDr. M shows a healthy skeptical but hopeful review of current cardiovascular research. this podcast helps navigate the hodgepodge of ‘research’ out there and brings to the attention of the listener important questions they should be asking themselves about research, the implementation of research into medical practice, and the working of the american medical complex
