Perhaps ‘Listen as I Tenuously Append Racism (badbadnotgood) to Every Historical Event’ was already taken? I never hear(d) about racism and always thought that everyone from the past got along; like the Native Americans.

This podcast is addicting if you love history, the Civil War, or just great story-telling. Chris is an awesome host and I hope he keeps it up. He does the perfect amount of technical history mixed in with human perspective. I prefer Chris to similar podcasters such as Dan Carlin.

Great podcast and the content is dense, but I wish it covered more events. It took too much time on the Civil War so it lost my attention.

The Mises Institute is well known for providing the unvarnished truth about everything. History is no different. Chris does a great job of weaving together the story with a libertarian perspective. It is NOT just a bunch of facts and statements thrown together. Chris thoughtfully provides a fascinating story about the history of the drug wars and the war between the states. Even if you're not a libertarian you will enjoy this podcast.

Chris Calton makes history come alive with his lively style and exhaustive research. He makes me look forward to learning a subject that I abhorred forty years ago.

No matter what level of interest one might have in this particular history, Mr. Calton narrates a fascinating and informative lesson in the critical progressions of the Civil War. You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy this podcast. Chris Carlton just makes the subject matter so interesting. I find myself listening to some episodes multiple times. I’ve always enjoyed reading about and studying the civil war, but Carlton dives so deep that I feel like I learn something new in every episode. Don’t miss the first series re: the failed drug war. Great show.

I'll be 100% honest, Chris is a friend of mine and last year I knew I was going to see him at Mises University so I thought I'd at least listen to an episode so I could tell him I did and it was good. Knowing Chris's passion for historical accuracy and great story telling ability, I should have known it was going to be great. What I didn't expect was to absolutely love it as much as I do. Instead of listening to just that one episode, I listened to it the entire drive there and back and even now it is my go-to podcast. If you have any interest in American history, I cannot recommend this podcast enough. I've learned so much from it about a variety of subjects. Chris does a fantastic job with both his research and presentation. I promise that you will become as addicted as I am!

This podcast has an awesome, well-researched narrative style that really makes it an entertaining listen, not only for people interested in history but also those that know little about the episodes in question. I highly recommend it for all.

I look forward to listening to this podcast every week. It’s a great source of historical info on various subjects (loving the in-depth look at various aspects of the Civil War!) and I really enjoy that it comes out regularly (unlike some other great history podcasts 😅). Anyone interested in history should give this a listen each week.

You don’t have to be a Civil War buff to enjoy this podcast. Chris Calton has broken up the history of the war into a series of compelling fascinating tales that each stand alone but also fit into an overall narrative that make the podcast a must listen every week.

I listened to the one on drugs and President Nixon, and while there was some good information, the dude giving the lecture was obviously biased and revealed himself to be too leftist for my taste. Too bad, there was some good information but it was poorly given.

Something more than a lecture, but not the production of a Hard Core History. Chris is finding a niche in the history podcast world that fits his own style. I rather enjoy the deep dive on stories and subjects as he slows down to explore nuances

This is a must listen for anyone interested in history. Both informative, and incredibly entertaining.

I am increasingly pleased with the way Chris Calton has handled the drug war, the US antebellum period, and (now) the US Cival War. I like the occasional asides around how history is done, the emphasis on human motivations, and the occasional digressions (which remain so much in context of the overall narrative.
