    Finally
This podcast is pulling together loose threads that i’ve been trying to gather for the last 20 years of my life. I always thought something was deeply wrong with me and just didn’t understand why NOTHING I did could fix it. Nothing made my mother happy. The last straw was recent. I was fighting for my life in the hospital. Her behavior was so awful, coupled with my father’s scramble to rationalize her behavior… maybe I’ll write your show sometime to tell you. I’ve read books, seen many therapists, but it has mostly been time, my spouse’s support, and my growing self-confidence that has helped me get to the point where I’m done feeling guilty— as if I hurt everyone— when I’ve been the one hurt. This podcast is so validating.

    I Feel Seen
This podcast has literally changed my life. I am able to understand complex and toxic relationships in my family that have baffled me for years. Heather gently guides us daughters through topics related to the family dynamics of growing up with a narcissistic mother and provided a community for support and growth. I have learned how my tumultuous relationship with my mother not only affected me, but every relationship I’ve had. It has allowed me to understand myself, have empathy for family members, give my mom grace without anger, and mourn the loss of a relationship I’ve always wanted, but could never have. It has helped me to set boundaries and opened up dialog and opportunities for healthy relationships in my life. It has helped me shift the way I parent my own children and take greater responsibility in the health of my marriage. Heather is relatable and kind, explains things in a non-judgement and positive way, and provides tools and support to continue the work with a therapist or on your own outside of the podcast.

The Best Podcast for Daughters of Narcissistic Moms
For several years I have been managing the realization that my mom is a narcissist and that, yes, I was/am harmed by her behavior and lack of empathy and love. Heather Gray (host) is the only person I’ve ever encountered who deeply understands the dynamics of the narcissistic mom-daughter relationship. Her podcast has helped me get unstuck after years of trying and failing to improve my relationship with my mom. I’m in a much healthier place because of Heather’s podcast. Cannot recommend this podcast highly enough! Such a work of love. Thank you, Heather!

    Not alone
This is an invaluable podcast. The content is understandable and usable, the connection with other people is heartfelt and vulnerable, I totally identify with something from each person… Community is built around this that keeps me from feeling alone. It was helpful to hear that it’s not just narcissistic mothers, because I’m not sure my mom was technically a narcissist, but includes limited moms. there was neglect for sure and this has given me tools and encouragement and understanding that I’m not alone.

    Thank you, from my soul.
Thank you so much, Heather. For all you do, for all you give, and for embracing us the way we’ve always needed to be embraced, while teaching us to do the same for ourselves. Thank you for giving us a community to find solace and make sense of our pain and helping us push through each day.

    Spot on! 🎯💯🙌🏽❤️‍🩹
I’ve listened to a handful of episodes in the last two days and I feel like I’m in church and want to stomp and raise my hands to the heavens because it hits home and she nails it in the head! I have been in recovery for a long time whether it’s journaling and/or in therapy and I feel I found a treasure trove of healing messages. Heather’s podcast is genuine, filled with compassion and receptivity. Thanks Heather!

No one else talks like this
I found Heather and her podcasts right after she dropped her first 3 episodes. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for or what help I needed. But when I typed in narcissistic mother in the search bar and came across Heather, it felt like finding all the answers to questions I didn’t know I was asking. She lays things out in an informative and supportive way. She gives insight into ourselves and to the narcissists who we interact with. I get so much value from the way Heather breaks things down that I feel that I grow from every single episode. Her knowledge, experience, kindness and transparency are unparalleled.

    Grateful!
I am 63 years old and am learning from each and every episode! I am making progress in my healing thanks to Heather’s kind and compassionate approach as she responds to fellow “daughters” who now feel like sisters. I also started therapy with a local therapist. My mom is in her early 90’s and I can attest that a narcissist’s behavior does not change. With that said, with new understanding and the skills I have gained in going low contact, my relationship with my mom is functioning better than it ever has, but most importantly I am staying healthy! This is a “must” podcast if you are the daughter of a narcissist and want to begin to free yourself!

    What a gifted therapist!
I have had a several therapists over the years and have talked about everything from my childhood experiences to my adulthood experiences and I have even given the therapists the diagnosis that my mother has narcissistic personality disorder, but no one has ever said the things being said here, no one has ever helped me to realize why I am the way I am like here, and no one has given me a plan on how to move forward like here. This is worth a listen without a doubt if you have suffered from narcissistic maternal abuse. I can’t stop talking about it with my friends and my husband. I am finally FINALLY feeling that I can heal and make my life better. Thank you Heather!

    Relevant, practical and foundational
I have found Heather's podcasts to be so relevant to this topic of Narcissistic mothers. In a day and age when "narcissist" is being thrown around as a lable for selfishness...Heather voices no such confusion. She is clear in her definitions, kind and practical in her advice and examples, and relevant in our daily lives. I'm blown away by how much I learn each time I listen to her podcast. Heather is a gift to all of us daugters of narcissitic parents but even my husband has found this podcast useful in processing his own trauma. It's just all-around wonderful! Thank you Heather!

    Thank you
Glad I found your podcast. It’s another reminder that we are not alone and that there is help to heal, thrive, and learn that we are lovable. You’re on a break as I listen to your work. I love that your pause is a reminder that we must take care of ourselves in order to take care of others, but most importantly we are most open to the best of life if we feel our best. I hope you’re feeling your best - these podcasts make a difference!!

A life vest for those sinking with a narcissistic mother.
I’m so glad I found this podcast. I’ve listened to many podcasts on narcissism and read a lot about it also for years now. Heather’s compassionate and authentic approach to the subject cuts to the chase and delivers practical ways to handle many different scenarios people encounter with their narcissistic mothers. She explains thing in a direct way which is gentle yet firm and leaves you feeling stronger and empowered for having listened. She delves into each topic incrementally so the listener doesn’t get overwhelmed, at least that is true for me. Sometimes the language that some coaches and therapists use when talking about a narcissist gets a little too complicated for me to understand and my mind starts to wander. I have not found this to be true with Heather. She speaks to you as if your’e a good friend and your having a cup of tea together but she’s no nonsense in the kindest of ways. Navigating narcissism is a tough and lonely road. Do yourself a favor and listen to Heather’s calm voice. She’s in it with you.

    Relevant and pragmatic
Trust me: Every show has some ring of familiarity to your own circumstances and childhood experiences. Heather gives practical advice based on plain-talk explanations of why daughters of Narcissistic mothers end up the way they do. She gives you the words to express what you are already feeling and thinking. For those of us lost in the forest, it’s like she is showing us each tree. Thank you Heather!

    Fantastic Resource
I am a LMFT and was looking for resources and was fortunate to find the Mother Mayhem series. It hard to find resources specific to mother daughter relationships in this context. They have been helpful for myself and have shared the resource with clients and colleagues.

    New listener
Hello, I just wanted to take a moment to say that I accidentally stumbled upon your show in a critical point in my life. Right after I had to go no contact with my family & I was really struggling with everything I just happened to see your show while searching for podcasts. I hesitantly started listening & for the FIRST time in my 39yrs of life I started to feel validated & seen. It’s a feeling I thought I’d never experience. I was at a point where I just thought I was becoming invisible to the world. I’ve learned since listening that my mom is a covert narcissist & I now am learning better ways to actually heal myself since finding your podcast. Thank you so much for all that you do! I hope to one day get up the nerve to write into you.

    Healing through connection
When I first discovered what I’d been struggling all of my life to name, that my mother was a covert narcissist, I immersed myself in YouTube videos because I finally felt validated in my suspicions that there was something terribly wrong in my relationship with my mother. I educated myself, found a therapist, and started on the road to healing after going no contact. What I was missing was connection……connection to someone, anyone, who knew what it was like to be raised by a narcissist. And that’s when I found Mother Mayhem. For the first time in my life, I felt like I belonged, that there were others I could relate to. We witness each other through our stories, and although we never meet (other than zoom), as I listen to episodes, I not only hear myself saying, “YES! I know what that feels like” but I imagine others having that same experience. So although our stories are different, we are all healing the same kinds of wounds with the guidance of Heather and the support of other women who are in the same boat all over the world. Thank you, Heather (and Clark) for all you do.

    Fantastic podcast
So healing and validating for those of us that grew up with narcissistic mothers and emotionally immature parents. There is a wide spectrum of abuse that is often hard to recognize and put into words. This podcast fills in so many gaps that my trauma brain has trouble articulating. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone in anyone in any stage of their journey with a narcissistic parent.

Best thing to have stumbled upon!
This podcast, the coaching calls, and emails have meant everything to me. Heather puts 110 percent of herself in every episode and there is real help here not just an explanation of the situation as I have found others to be. Highly recommend!

Helping me move the needle on my shame
Thank you, Heather. Your podcast has helped me move the needle with understanding myself and lessening the shame of disliking and resenting my elderly narcissistic mother who expects me to be her only caregiver. You have provided much needed validation but better yet, given me scripts and tools that have helped me take action to kindly set some boundaries. Heather, I’m grateful for you, this podcast, and these changes you’ve helped me make.

    Your timing is impeccable
Five weeks ago, I severed the relationship with my mother, and my best friend, who is a therapist, sent me the link to your podcast. I can’t tell you how good it is to hear that the experiences I’ve had with my mother can be explained. I never could understand why she enjoyed pushing my buttons so much. I never understood why she would get so nasty when we would get into disagreements. I never understood why she would use my reactions against me. I never understood how she she could be so selfish in so many aspects of her life. I never understood why she wanted everybody to feel so sorry for her for everything. I couldn’t understand how she would make herself the victim of any event or circumstance. And above all else, I could never understand why it seemed like she was jealous of me, and really just couldn’t stand me. Thank you for explaining it all to me. I am eight episodes in and learn something new every episode. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

    You Saved Me!
I found this podcast just when I reached my breaking point with my mom. It has taken me 31 years (my entire life) to realize that I was raised by a narcissist. Thanks to Heather I now understand why I am a people pleaser, perfectionist and have trouble making decisions. Heather’s voice is so comforting to me in this time of healing, she is slowly helping me find myself and create boundaries I never knew I was allowed to make. I have listened to her everyday since finding the podcast and it has helped me quiet any feelings of shame and guilt that start to arise whenever I think about the boundaries I have set with my mother. Thank you for your guidance, your sincerity and solidarity as I navigate the “messy middle”.

    Very Helpful
This podcast is packed with helpful information about how to recover after being raised by a mother who did not love you. I gobbled up all the available episodes quickly because I was just so hungry for answers. Now I am working my way through again more slowly, digesting as I go. I am so glad that I found this resource. Much thanks to Heather Gray!

    I finally feel heard!
I found this podcast when I was searching for information on Narcissistic Mothers before a recent trip to see my family. I wanted to brush up on strategies and fill my tool box. I’ve known my mother was a narcissist since 2017 when I read all the characteristics in the DSM. But her behavior never fails to reduce me to my 4 year old self. Anyway, I found my place with people who get it, here. Not only did I find resources and practical tools but I finally felt heard and understood. Heather you do God’s work, clearly this is a gift that you’ve packaged and shared with the rest of us. Thank you so much.

    Highly Recommend
When I began this podcast I was unsure, scared and hurt. After listening to Heather and her insights I now feel validated and I have tools to help me move forward. Heather not only lays out the basics, she dives deeper and takes questions from readers. I decided to write into the show not really expecting much, however, I received back a very thoughtful response specific to my situation. Heather truly cares about her listeners and it shows. If you are struggling with a narcissist mom you have found the right place.

Helpful in all the right ways!
Heather has really taken time and care into creating this podcast. It has helped me immensely. Her topics are incredibly relatable and the way in which she conveys her message is very clear and precise. I find it so easy to listen and stay focused. She really wants to help anyone feeling alone in this situation and maybe doesn’t have the means for one on one therapy. I just love how validated I feel after listening and more equipped to handle things with my mom.

    Life changing
I’m only on episode 10 but this podcast is already life changing! I have never felt so seen and understood in my entire life,I’m almost 50. The descriptions of women as adults whom grew up with narc mothers is incredible. So many things I never understood about myself or worse, thought it was further proof of my defects as a human and always in the back of my head thinking it was me that caused her issues and her lack of love or empathy. Thank you so much Heather for doing this. I plan on re listening to your show as my way of reaffirming and reminding myself I am a worthy human. This show has also helped me learn boundaries a concept I have never understood. I could go on and on but I’m not exaggerating when I say this show was life changing for me!
