    Ryan Brod Podcast was Excellent!
This episode was so powerful for me personally. He spoke to the passion of connecting with Nature and choosing that over profit. That's been my life story as a writer and holistic fly fishing guide. I resonated deeply with his life story and it helped me take a deep look at my own trajectory. April talked about her passion for connection with fish/animals...Nature. Just such a good discussion between them that went far beyond the surface. Absolutely wonderful and much-appreciated!

    First hand experience
We took fly fishing lessons from her about 10 years ago. We had fly fished for years but not with the 2 handed rod & we wanted to get exposed to it. She was giving a small clinic on a river & my husband & I were part of the group. We found her to be more interested in the other instructors then the students and she was very impatient & gave short curt corrections. We were not impressed at all. Hopefully she’s better at interviewing than instructing.

    Excellent interviews
April is an excellent interviewer —. Interviews that might otherwise lack luster, are polished by her skill. She occasionally interjects her own experience but it never becomes about her. Rather, it always remains about the person being interviewed.

    Dave Zielinski
Great podcast on an untouched subject. But I have a feeling a Pandora’s Box will be opened once folks hear Zielinski’s passion for this subject. It is contagious……..I’m going to start planning 2024 and 2025. Great work.

    Emily Rodger Interview
This was an amazing interview. Although I have followed Emily Roger on Instagram for a few years now, I did not know much of her backstory and had lost track a bit over the last year. Her story is amazing in itself, but I also admire the both of you for the courage when you came across issues that you thought might cause some backlash from listeners. I thought those moments were special and exemplify your characters as humans.

Thank you so much for doing this episode!! I am a mom of a 5 month old and a 2 year old and have not been able to hunt or fish for 2 years but am looking to get back out and start bringing my girls. I am a first generation hunter and fisher and would love to be able to feel more comfortable and confident in the woods and on the water. Any educational resources you could think of would be greatly appreciated!! This show has already been a great start!

    Skip Morris
Loved this interview with Skip. We once fished an evening together in Northern CA and he was gracious enough to share a few flies with me

    I love this Podcast!
I enjoy this podcast a lot. Steve Ramierz interview was particularly incredible. Thank you!!!!!

    Diverse and thought-provoking
Not your typical outdoors podcast. April has a unique style and thoughtful way of looking at how and why we pursue outdoor activities.

    Always…
Always informative. Always respectful. Always diverse in topic and focus. Always grounded. I learn about angling and the outdoors, the complexities and simplicity of people and their lives. Thanks for producing such a wonderful podcast!

    April is a great interviewer!
Listened recently to an older podcast featuring John Gierach. Found out more about my favorite fishing author in that episode than in any of the others I have listened to. Great Job April!

    Mixed Feelings
I enjoy the guests and some of the subject matter. I do however have a problem with someone calling themselves a “hunter” but having a problem with using the word “kill” when it comes to the actual taking of animals as mentioned in the podcast with Donnie Vincent. To me this a shrug to the responsibility and seriousness of taking an animals life. Also don’t care much for the overused “conservationist” title every single celeb is using now. As a life long hunter and fisherman practicing both in an ethical and conservation minded manner I’ve never felt the need to identify myself as such and advertise it. Everyone should be doing it and discussing it but I think using it as a marketing strategy dilutes the importance of it.

    Great guests but terrible interviewer
It would be nice if those who have podcasts would have more experience in the sport in which they are doing a podcast about.
  • treydfoster
    Very informative and fun
Rodney Fox and girls boobs!!! I was dying lol. However I recently listened to Jim Shockey’s episode and I did not realize what a quack he is. “Proven there are 74 different genders.” And how he dogged on agriculture when talking about chicken production, not super professional Just listened to Donnie Edward’s. He is a whack job.

April’s pod cast is sooo much more than fly fishing
Like everyone else, I started to listen to Anchored to learn more about a specific guest or Fly Fishing topics (Hoagy Charmichael, Kirk Deeter, Jen Ripple etc). But I found myself listening to all her shows because I like her style. She’s not just another expert angler looking to show off his/her knowledge and impress the audience and guests. Instead, April is genuinely curious to know more and she puts herself in the eyes of her listeners to find out deeper back stories and personal/emotional details from her guest’s life experiences. April is truly gifted as an interviewer when it comes getting know the real people behind Industry movers and shakers. April has gained the trust and respect of her guests. Even her guests probably walk away with a truer understanding of themselves after they’ve revealed thoughts never before shared out loud. Great Job April!

    One of my Favs
While I don’t listen to each episode, this is my go to podcast. April is talented at what she does and has some of the best interviews out there.

    John Gierach
Just recently joined Anchored Oudoors . Longtime fisherman. Beginner fly fisherman. Life gets in the way! Have followed your career in fly fishing many years. Really enjoyed this Podcast with John Gierach. Very insightful. You seem to excel in all you do, but you seem to be a natural interviewer. Will definitely catch up on all these podcasts. Hope to catch you in Michigan someday soon, perhaps Schultz Outfitters?

    Great Interviews
I have only recently discovered this podcast. While I truly enjoy each show, my favorite is the Ted Juracsik interview. That interview was heartfelt and inspirational when they spoke of his life, as well as technical and exciting when he spoke of his reels and machining knowledge. Ted is definitely old school cool, and April is an excellent host.

    April Vokey who?
I’m a 58 year old white guy who also happens to be married to a real Karen - who is delightful by the way. So, while I may be privileged, I clearly wasn’t too privileged because I only recently discovered April Vokey and her podcast. When I get really busy at work I stockpile my hunting and fishing magazines. The pandemic and working from home has provided an opportunity to cull through my collection. I discovered April when reading her article on Mark Johnstad in the Fly Fisherman 50th anniversary edition (Oct-Nov 2018). It was here that I also discovered she was named in the list of top 50 influential fly fishers of this era and that she had a podcast. I figured the podcast was worth a listen. Great guests, great conversations, and just all-around enjoyable, so I subscribed. I love how she is helping to preserve some of the history of the outdoor sports and also includes many new voices by focusing on what ties us together. Great podcast. I gave it 5 stars!

    Authentic, Real, Moving
Surprise podcast. I listen mainly for the fishing and fishing-related stories, which I enjoy and can listen to as I’m doing other things. This one, a podcast that hit deeply into what many of us need in terms of healing, especially now, had my whole attention. Anyone who fishes knows the “therapeutic” side of getting out into nature and being on the river. This interview was an authentic, real way to say it again in a beautiful way.

Episode 164 - John Dietsch Graced By Waters
Undoubtedly, this is probably the most profound podcast you have made to date. I have listened for many years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed your work. They are always good, with lots of insight, but I do have to say that this one moved me the most. I applaud you!

    Never a dull episode
Came here initially for the fishing info but quickly realized the depth and scope of this podcast goes far beyond that and always gets into interesting topics I hadn’t anticipated. April is a great interviewer and keeps the conversations interesting and far from a dry straight forward Q and A. Definitely a worthwhile listen.

Thank you for this. So good. Feels like a new version of Eliot Eigginton’s Foxfire.

Fantastic podcast. Sheds a lot of truthful life on the industry.

I really appreciate your podcast April
Thank you for the intentional angling/outdoor content that you create. I'm especially appreciative of the more recent episodes with Spencer Greening and Nigel where we get to hear indigenous voices and learn about the historical impacts of colonial conquest and how they play out on the landscapes that we love. Bravo to you, the angling and conservation work that you do, and for elevating those important voices that often don't get heard.

    Real
I have listened to April for several years and other fly fishing podcasts as well. There is a tendency in this business to seek attention, seek out pro staff, ambassador or some other elevated status with equipment reps and manufacturers and be part of the “scene”. While I’m sure April could do any and all of that if she wanted to, she chooses to be herself. She has a great interest in people and what makes them tick and has become one hell of an interviewer over the years. You can literally hear her putting her guests at ease, even when she politely (she is Canadian after all) asks her guests the tougher questions when they need to be asked. She is authentic and the real deal!

    Professional and informative
This is a great podcast for a wide range of people with an interest in fly fishing. An impressive knowledge in the sport combined with a skilled ability in interviewing makes April a great host. A further credit to her qualifications is the referral she gets from other podcasters like Barbless.co as a must listen podcast. Thanks so much for spending the time to educate and share.

    Bryan Gregson Interviee
I really enjoyed listening to your interview with Bryan. I graduated from high school and had my mind made up that I was going to be a photo journalist. I loved shooting film, and being outside in nature. I had so many people tell me that I shot great photos, and everything was always framed nice, and the lighting was always great. I let college councilors talk me out of pursuing what I really wanted to do. I was told that a degree in photography was one of the top 10 most useless degrees. I was told there was no money in it. So I switched to a business degree. It wasn’t what I wanted to do, and I got burned out working a full time job, a part time job, and going to college taking the same classes I took in high school. I found a good paying job, and eventually dropped out of college. I’ve spent 29 years trapped in a job I hate, and I’ve only hung around for the pay and benefits. I kick myself every day for not pursuing my dream job! I don’t know if I have ever seen any of Bryan’s work, but I admire him so much after hearing his story. GOD BLESS!

Incredibly well done. April covers a wide variety of topics and interviews so many fascinating people often who have different opinions than her. Give it a listen you won’t be disappointed.

The episode 131 interview is unreal😮 the stories of April’s guests are the best modern history of FF and the outdoors available in one place. Thank you!
