Ottoman Lives

50

The Ottoman Empire lasted for six hundred years and dominated the Middle East and Europe, from Budapest to Baghdad and everything in between. The sultans ruled three continents. But they didn't do it on their own. This podcast looks at the cast of characters who made the empire run: the sultan, the queen mother, the peasant, the janissary, the harem eunuch, the holy man, and the outlaw.

  • Never had much if an interest
    Very Intresting
Never had much of an interest in the Ottomans out side of them bringing roman history to a final close. But these stories about their live makes me want to research more on this empire of six hundred years.

    Many mistakes
Hi ı have noticed many mistakes from this podcast even from begining bc it has many mistakes in it. First of all.Hurrem wasnt only woman until that time who legally married to Sultan. She was first concubine who legally married with Sultan. There are many Turkish,Byzantine,Serbian princesses who legally married with Ottoman rulers.Last one was Suleyman’s mother Hafsa Sultan of Crimea married with Selim I. They didnt married with free woman bc when Bayezid and his wife captured by Timur. He insulted his wife after that sultans mostly didnt marry with free woman. There is another mistake that ı noticed.Mahidevran and her son werent sent to manisa bc her rivalry between Hürrem.it is Sanjak system in ottomans which princes were governer of cities in anatolia due to get experience.
