Welcome to Your Fantasy

In the 1980s the “male exotic dancers” of Chippendales were everywhere, selling the promise of women’s liberation for the price of a few dollars in a g-string. But behind the powerful mullets, oiled pecs, and non-stop parties lies a much darker story of greed, corruption and murder. Historian Natalia Petrzela exposes one of the great, sordid, unexamined stories in American culture.

    Fascinating
What a wild story! This was so fascinating. I couldn’t stop listening and binged the whole thing in two days.

Stick with what you know and watch what you say
I really liked this podcast until episode 6 when the host referred to reserve police officers as “basically mall cops”. My husband is a reserve deputy sheriff, and I can assure you that is not the case. How dare you.

    Excellent
I loved this podcast, the story it told, and especially the warmth of the host. I could have listened to several more episodes like the last one, where the three historians talk about the impact of chippendales

    Meh
Podcast is a bit boring with a long drawn out story. It’s mostly created for the host to talk constantly in a style close to the lady from Serial. She clearly created this to listen to herself speak and name drop that she’s a historian. Don’t waste your time.

    Is the host a historian?
I’m not sure if she reminds us ever. Overall, a smart podcast that’s well paced. Narrative feels a little unfocused by the end. And while I do like that the host digs into broader theories about the place of Chippendales in cultural histories… I felt like the final discussion and conclusion were pretty unsatisfying.

    Excellent!
I heard a little about this subject in a different podcast, so I checked this out, and it really delivered! Very well researched and produced. Really interesting subject matter with a little of everything! Highly recommend.

    Love it!
Love this story! My mom used to go to Chippendales in the 80s, so I was always intrigued. She was a pretty ‘normal’ mom, but she and her friends would have these wild nights out every now and then, now I know why! I never imagined there was such a backstory to the whole operation! I like the host too, she is very engaging as she tells the story, and really brings you on a journey the 80’s. and her interviews with some of the key figures are great! Alternately funny, touching. Ultimately it’s sad tale of what money does to people. I did get a little confused with all the people and details sometimes, but still a great listen!

    Kaylajasmine824 is too right
The host is TOO ANNOYING. FIRE THE HOST NOW!!!!!! I WILL NEVER LIKE THIS PODCAST!!! ONE STAR REVIEW YOU STINKING PEOPLE!!!!!

    Why keep interrupting the interviews?
Chippendales is such a random thing to cover so I was interested just because of that but it was so incredibly painful to listen to the host continuously interrupt the interview to say what the person is probably already saying in the interview instead of just letting the person tell their story.

    Really interesting!
I enjoyed the whole show! And I hope to hear more of Natalia’s work. The only thing that annoyed me was the 40 years thing. I guess the foundation of Chippendales was 40 years ago, but Nick’s death was 34 years ago and Steve’s death was 26/27 years ago. I was born in the late 80s and I’m not 40 yet lol and my sister was born in the late 90s and she’s nowhere near 40! I’m holding on to my youth ok! Anyway great work!

Like candy with depth and meaning
It’s as fun and indulgent as something trashy used for escapism, but it’s ALSO brilliantly investigated, reported, and analyzed. Natalia weaves the intriguing tale of the Chippendales saga with a formidable historical prowess that is effortless, accessible, appealing and hip. It’s like indulging in gossip and getting smarter at the same time- a rare and delightful thing.

    Fantastic
Shockingly interesting, extremely well done, totally worth your time

    Thought provoking analysis
I really appreciate the discussion in the final episode. I would have liked more discussion with experts added to discuss the cultural observations in more depth. I have more questions and observations around ‘empowering women’ and LGBTQ+ response and the changes around masculinity. Thank you.

Would love to hear what the host could do with a subject worthy of her talents
Subject (Chippendale’s strip club) is of little interest to me but I stuck with it because the host Natalia Petrzela is smart and appealing. She also appears to have serious investigative chops. Hope she finds a subject on her next outing that is on a par with her talents.

    Natalia is the best
What a great voice! Literally and figuratively as this show is so well researched and engaging and framed in an engaging fashion. Just excellent

    If it’s only on Spotify...
...maybe don’t release a bunch of teasers/ads on Apple podcasts?
  • Rnoelm
    Striptease that is all tease
After hearing about this podcast from another pod, I subscribed, only to find it isn’t here at all. Sorry not adding another App to get it and will just unsubscribe instead. Already have too much good content to listen to, not chasing teases.

    Head to Spotify
Holy Smokes. The details behind Chippendales are wild. No idea when this podcast will come to Apple but I’m through episode 3 on Spotify. Worth another podcast app.

    LAST GREAT FREE RIDE
Before sex was a lethal weapon and the worst you could catch wouldn’t kill you. But death still came. And there was someone who rose out of this deranged muck to take the moral high ground. I love the voice of Candice, I really enjoy the editing and appreciate the time and effort put forth to bring this complex tale.

    Yay!
Woo! If you have given FREE CONTENT that you are excited about a 1-star review because of a release delay, that’s a problem...and a YOU problem. Seriously.

    This is the vibe
Omg the hosts voice is raspy-cool

Host states at the end of the trailer to subscribe on Spotify.

    The fluffy escapism we need
Yes, I would like to immerse myself in a weird 80s narrative and learn all about the Chippendales. Srsly ... a podcast is not 1-star because of a delay. The host’s voice is annoyingly raspy (ouch!) ... but it’s a crazy and fascinating story.

    Everyone: chill
I’m excited for this podcast. People who gave this a one star because it’s not out yet need to chill. Looking forward to it whenever it’s out!

    ...well where is it?
This was supposed to be released in August but there’s no updates I can find anywhere. Does anyone know what happened???
  • mollyAnd
    Will this ever be released?
I thought this was supposed to come out in August 2020 and here we are December 2020. Will this ever come out? I don’t want to rush perfection, but why would a release date be published and then not followed through on?
  • pnc is good
    Where is it
    Why no podcast
  • chroniccollegestudentng
    Update?!
Uhmm wasn’t this supposed to be released in August? I know COVID-19 has changed things, but an update would be nice. I’m running out of decent podcasts to enjoy and I’m stuck at home.
  • jeff33
Would rate higher if ever gets released
