The best- beautiful, inspiring and uplifting every time
I discovered this podcast about a year ago and have almost made it through every episode in every season! Such a great podcast with wisdom, inspiration, encouragement and beauty in every episode! Great stories and guests and Stephen’s words are so profound- this podcast is for artists, makers, (even if your art is simply creating a joyful, beautiful, and meaningful life) and all who are interested in the ultimate issues of life, eternity and faith and how they are related to art and beauty.

    Favorite!
Makers and Mystics is a treasure! It’s got such rich and varied content, including inspiring interviews with musicians and writers and artists and thinkers of all kinds. It never fails to inspire me with thoughts on art, literature, beauty, and the value of art in our lives. Quite simply, it returns me to a place where I can see the world with wonder again. And that is priceless. No matter how busy my life gets, I always make time for this podcast. Thank you, Stephen Roach!

    Such important conversations for today
I’m so grateful I discovered this podcast! It’s given language and new perspectives in my journey as an artist and allowed me to more effectively support the artists around me. Especially within our current overwhelming flood of information of all kinds, it’s so important to take time to focus on goodness, truth, and beauty.

    Meaning Making Matters
This conversation and journey of exploration has been so encouraging to participate in as an artist who longs to make meaning through my life and work. I encourage you to make the space and time to listen, make some notes, let it inspire you to explore it on your own work, then join the conversation. It is fuel for the soul and the creative mind.

    Every episode fascinates
What I put into my mind has to be as life-giving as what I put into my mouth to sustain my body. This podcast is just that—giving food for thought while nourishing the spiritual life. Well done!

    Good for the soul
We need more discussions about art, artists and makers. To have conversations around: The mystery of creating something out of nothing, transcendence, faith, vulnerability and honesty is refreshing and good for the soul. Wynn Everett’s episode was so interesting and compelling. Thank you for engaging with creative individuals who share, inspire and encourage.
  • RousseauxB
    staggering, smart, and sooo insightful!
I’ve only made it through two seasons, but I leave every episode with my mind expanded, my heart enlarged, and my heart more convinced that my artistic pursuits matter.

    So good!
S8 E14 was just what I needed! You spoke one confirmation after another of what the Spirit has been saying to me. Thank you for helping to continue this process of stripping away my old nature while speaking truth and life to my hungry soul! It’s time to run with joy toward this life of creativity and cast off all fear of disappointment and failure. I can’t lose!!

    Fresh inspiration with every listen
Love the community that is growing around Makers & Mystics. I carry away something from every episode that inspires me ongoing for days, weeks, or just becomes part of who I am. The combination of artists from our own time with vignettes of mystics past is perfect. Also appreciate hearing from Stephen Roach with themes that have been laid on his heart.

  • Inspiration for Creatives
My favorite podcast ever - and I listen to a lot of them!
This podcast has awakened my soul more than any other podcast I’ve listened to. It literally changed my life and fueled me with the inspiration I’ve needed to keep unfolding myself as a new creation as I also unfold the work within me. I’ve been so grateful for this incredibly rich, nourishing food for my soul! Thank you Stephen Roach for your work on this! As a prophetic artist and mystic, when I started listening to this episode I thought, “I found my people!” Listening to this podcast especially during the pandemic has reminded me that I’m not alone and given me the encouragement I need to keep going in my creative work. I love the ways the themes in this podcast intersect the creative and spiritual journeys in ways that doesn’t give easy answers, but invites us into continual questions, depth, and exploration. I have loved all the interviews of working artists and have drawn so much wisdom from their creative process, as well as artist profile series that give me a picture of artists who have made an eternal impact. Drawing from their strength, example, and faithfulness, I feel like I can create with their wind at my back.
  • Bensk8n
    Multifaceted!
Being an artist is amazing but really hard at times too and I’ve needed reminders of how understood I am and how I’m not alone and this podcast really reminds me of that. I love that it touches every kind of art form and from a plethora of artist from all over the place. It challenges, inspires and makes me (in a good way) uncomfortable at times. It’s amazing.
  • Great community !

    Great podcast, greatest community
I discovered the Breath and the clay on Instagram and then it led me to the Makers and Mystics podcast. The podcast has been such a learning tool, all the talks have been so encouraging me. They have helped me reset, relearn and see with different eyes art and faith. It has always been a struggle to understand why God placed this love for the arts and creativity and I found my self stumbling with such giants as fear and self doubt that I gave up on pursing this calling. But listening to these talks they have opened up my eyes to what God is actually doing in the arts for so long and I am so happy I get to feed my mind, soul and creativity from such a great moderator and artists. Thank you.

This is not “cheesy Christian Art”
The podcast is amazing, the community behind the cast is even better! Lord knows how I stumbled upon this podcast, but so glad I did. Every episode inspires me as an artist and teaches me something new about a great artist of the past or present. Give this a listen if you want real, deep, soul lifting content.

    Important for Today’s Culture
Fantastic podcast that encapsulates the importance of creativity in all its facets. It reminds people of how art shapes culture and transforms the world around us. Great host, great guests, great all around project!

    Profoundly encouraging
My favorite podcast and the only one I listen to consistently. Always thought provoking and always an encouragement. As a Christian artist, these engaging discussions about art and life are exactly what I’ve needed. I feel like every episode I listen to is exactly what I’ve been thinking about expressed insightfully and profoundly. It gives words to my deepest thoughts and questions about being an artist of faith and integrity.

    Uplifting and challenging
This podcast is like a dose of life, shot straight into the beast. It’s challenging, uplifting and non-traditional ( yet still theologically sound) all at the same time. I am a huge fan.

    You Are Not Alone
As an Artist of faith it’s easy to feel alone. The art world may tell you're too religious and the church may tell you you’re too out there. What about the intersection of the two? Can my art and gifts that God gave me work together with the divine? I started listening to this podcast a few years ago and it’s been incredible to both my growth as a maker and a mystic. It helped show me that there are other people out there that have the same thoughts/questions as me and they were having conversations about it right here on the podcast! This podcast helps me to realize the worth and validity of artists in the faith and encourages me to create.

    Every Time
Two things happen every time I listen to Makers and Mystics: I feel inspired to go crete something, and I feel comradery with a faith community of artists. I'm embarassed how easily I lose the motivation to create. Whether its the busyness of life, or a creative dry spell, or a couple down weeks in a row - I'm in such need of perseverance. This podcast lifts me up every time. I am very grateful for it.
  • Meliska
    Thank you

    Not just a podcast
This podcast is insightful and inspiring, but what’s more is that it’s a real community of every day mystics and makers. Art and Faith comes together in this community in a truly inspired way. Thank you!

    Instrumental
This podcast has been instrumental in my journey of dismantling the boxes of my evangelical upbringing and bringing me into a contemplative and experiential understanding of faith. Book recommendations from this podcast have gone on to often be my favorite books and books I gift frequently to others. Roach’s gentle and learning posture sets the tone for listeners to be ready to gain wisdom.

    Thank you!
I was struggling with walking away from making art, considering I should perhaps be serving His kingdom in a more “practical” way. I am in need of an art community and this podcast has helped supplement that need. Please be encouraged and keep doing what you’re doing!

    Inspiring
As someone who strives to learn to live and view the world more and more from the pint of view of an artist, Makers & Mystics has been a great resource. To be able to hear the stories and heart of some artists that I truly look up to is an invaluable resource that I absolutely love.

Just discovered a few weeks ago
I just discovered this podcast a few weeks ago; as an artist/ writer/ maker I've often if not always felt like the work moves through me not because of me and I'm go grateful I get to do this work. My favorite episodes so far are S6/E6 Adorning the Dark with Andrew Peterson; S6/E5 Moving through the World with Propaganda; S6/E2 with Lauren Midgley (Wonder&Light), the group one live onstage talking about their process and the one with Lanecia Rouse Tinsley.

    A place for my struggle
I’ve been struggling for sometime to find my way in and through the liminal space between where I’ve been and where I’m going. Makers and Mystics is a road map for my journey. The artists and makers that Stephen converses with are a source of inspiration and instruction for me.

    Excellently conversations from excellent artists
When I first discovered "Makers and Mystics," it was in its third season. I immediately went back to the beginning and listened to every episode over the span of about a month until I was caught up. Since then, I faithfully listen to every new episode. Stephen Roach has created a fantastic frontier where the unity of art, faith, and community are open for the listener to explore. As a concert pianist and neo-romantic composer who desires to perform and write music like Beethoven, Brahms, and Chopin, the church doesn't always seem like the place to stretch artistically in that direction. "Makers and Mystics" has provided me an outlet to hear what incredibly creative artists across the country are doing to further their artistic and spirtual disciplines. I have also enjoyed connecting to the M&M community on Pateron and have thoroughly enjoyed the bonus content and interactive opportunities.
