Bah Humbug: A Christmas Movie Podcast with Helen O'Hara

23

If you have tinsel on the brain and mulled wine in your blood, this is the podcast for you. We’re living in a golden age of delightfully cheesy Christmas movies, and on Bah Humbug we examine the biggest new offerings this season, as well as looking back at classic seasonal favourites. Think Kurt Russell in The Christmas Chronicles 2, Dolly Parton in Christmas On The Square and Kristen Stewart in Happiest Season. Hosted by Helen O’Hara (the Empire podcast, His Darker Materials) and a rotating cast of film experts and guests, this will take a (mostly) affectionate look at the snowiest, coziest, Scroogiest, and Santa-iest films of all.

    Helen is the greatest
What are Helen O’Hara fans called? Helen-holics? O’Hara heads? Yellin for Helen? I dunno, but I’m one of them. Helen is the best, whether she’s talking about Christmas movies or sexism is Hollywood. Listen to this podcast!!!!

    Terrific as usual.
An intelligent, well-structured podcast about the struggles women face in the film industry. It is obvious how much thought and time and attention Helen and her guests have given to the subject. You will learn about the progressive ideas working their way into the industry, and also what you can do to help the cause.

A fascinating listen for all movie fans
Helen is always a balanced and insightful voice into the movie world, and this podcast is no exception. The conversations are always well thought out and worthwhile, while being kind and generally enthusiastic about movies and Hollywood silliness!

Exceptional - as always with Helen
I listened to this audiobook as I realized that I would enjoy it so much more listening to Helen herself rather than listening to myself as I read it. The podcast is even better - I have learned so much from the book. And again from the podcast. I really like the format - insertions of specific interviews that help emphasize a point or a perspective. I love film. Old old films and new films. But I have also been in technology as a female leader for almost 30 years (mobile phones) and the similarities are astonishing in the way women have been treated. I hate that phrase - as if we have asked for being in this position, like a small child looking for any recognition or inclusion - but the numbers as you covered in this episode speak for themselves. Film mirrors our lives - representation needs to change. Thanks Helen for carrying on the good fight and bringing more conversation to the topic! Cheers!

    Christmas Spirit Galore!!
Around this time of year I always look for holiday podcasts but there are only a few that keep me engaged. I love films and The Empire Podcast, so I was ecstatic to learn that Helen was starting her own focused only on Holiday movies!! And she’s taking new ones and comparing them to classics, which is a neat and fun idea! She has had great guests on, some familiar to me and some not but all equally as enthusiastic and funny! I love this pod (if you can’t tell), it gets me in the Christmas spirit, works as a recommendation spot, and is just a joy to listen to. Hope it keeps going for years to come!
