This industry has a habit of beating the heck out of people but Eric has the ability to shine the light on the best of our industry while still pulling the hard lessons from the brutal parts. I am a super planner and I have been trying to find every resource to help me reach my goal and this podcast has been the most informative, inspirational, and motivating resource I have came across. With everything to do to get the business off the ground and hearing peoples true stories it makes my dream feel more obtainable. I’ve been doing this in Okinawa for a little over a year but I’ve been in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. I find the stories very relatable and insightful in ways I didn’t know about running my own restaurant and it has made me a better owner as well. Thank you for being the great resource and providing entertainment for me as well. P.S. I have been listening to your podcast nonstop since I discovered it.

Pro tip: Make sure you listen to the episodes that feature guests that are not directly affiliated with the facets of the industry with which you are interested or familiar. The guests are always intriguing and you’ll probably find answers to questions that you didn’t know you had.

comeoneyeahhaaaaaGreat content, obnoxious hostI really love the content of some of these podcasts. The expertise coming through is really terrific. Which makes it worth struggling though Eric - you can tell he is a genuinely nice guy that wants to learn, but Man. That fake loud, lower than normal announcer voice and diction. His words are often mumbled together, and he jumps in far too often to “prove” the experts point. Yeah man, we get it, it’s a great point - which is why the expert said it. Move on and make the podcast 15 minutes shorter.

suburbangoblinPatrick Mulvaneys interviewFor a lot of chefs and cooks in the Sacramento community seeing Mulvaney do this mental health awareness and suicide prevention is a slap in the face. I’ve worked for him for about a year and I watched people drop like flies because people couldn’t handle his anger and screaming. Maybe he’s doing it because he feels bad for all the mental damage he’s caused. I was always confident in the kitchen and was a top player in one also. Working for him, he tore any confidence and pride I had and I had to work it back up once I left his restaurant. I didn’t know what anxiety, PTSD, and thoughts of suicide was until he made me feel it. He’d scream in your face, physically push you, throw pans across the room wizzing past people’s heads, toss your own knives that you paid for, etc. it was a known thing for most of his workers to not talk to him until he talks to you but to the public he’s an amazing leader. Ask 80-90 percent of the people who have worked for him and they will be offended by what he’s doing. I wish I could talk to him about it but he’d literally look at you and treat you as if you are not worth his time.

AzyadehThis right here saved me from my insanity!My husband a Pizzaiolo & Italian chef has been dreaming of opening up his own place even before I met him over 15 years ago. His father in Japan was an Italian chef & Daisuke is too. However, as a teacher, I like stability. I like my summers off, I’m afraid basically. But after three years in a food cart, numerous articles & selling out more than not, I feel ready to go on this journey here. Yes, I attend workshops at the International Pizza Convention in Las Vegas & yes I’m hooked up with our local Score, but this podcast here! This is what has allowed me to feel confident, smarter, know what to read, research, plan, etc. I can’t listen without taking notes or searching up something new! Now that the hospitality side of the job is on the horizon and free time will be lacking, it would be awesome if in the notes you could add time stamps to when certain points are addressed. For instance (22:40) building your business (37:50) taking over a brand That’s my only request for now! Great job keep up the awesome work

Two years ago I decided to boycott podcasts for two reasons. 1. I was consuming too much and not having time to implement things I needed done for my business. 2. It seemed as if everyone was starting to follow all the successful podcasts out there. What I love is that the host dives deeper into almost all his questions and out of this I am able to pull nuggets of information that I can implement. If I had to try to sum up this podcast, I would say the host is a mix between John Lee Dumas and Andrew Warner in his interview style but makes it for the restaurant industry. Awesome podcast!
