The Weekly List

337

The Weekly List is a podcast hosted by Amy Siskind, author of The List. It supplements the popular Weekly List on our website, www.theweeklylist.org, which tracks the ever changing new normals of American politics. The podcast gives greater context to the "not normal" news items from the previous week, and will highlight a few stories and changing norms from the Trump regime that you may have missed.

    Excellent factual review
Excellent weekly review of political realities of a Trump administration. Thoughtful analysis based on facts. All areas covered. I feel well informed.

    She’s losing it
I thought she was pretty great until today on her Facebook page she called her followers “inconsiderate” because they we sending her DM’s. And when questioned, she blocks people. Amy might be going a bit trumpy.

    Dangerous false comfort
“Checks and balances are holding” is a false statement while at this moment there is NO check on Trump’s ability to freely commit crimes and to pardon ANYONE who commits crimes on his behalf. The forbidding of high crimes and misdemeanors is GONE. Nothing has been done about it and it is shocking how Amy is not talking about it.

    Brief and to the point
Siskind’s brief and to the point weekly summaries are a good way to keep tabs on the latest sins of Maga world without being pulled into the rabbit hole. Her soft and calm voice contrasts with the horrifically overmodulated timpany intro and finale. Here’s a knife—have you ever wondered what’s i side the drum set?

    Yay
Amy Siskind, your show is so informative, and because of the racist glut in the white house, very upsetting and almost unbelievable.

    Must listen
Brilliant. Terrifying. Amy Siskind delivers the truth that the media seems squeamish about covering. Well done!

    Amy Siskind 2020
This is the most important podcast any American can listen to. Once the smoke clears, “The List” will help us trace our way back to normalcy. Thank you, Amy Siskind!

Absolutely vital podcast for the country & my sanity
The Weekly List was exactly what I & tons of friends, family, coworkers & fellow activists felt was missing in our media-diets, considering that my family is comprised of print journalists and political scientists, that’s quite a tall order. The Weekly List truly allowed me to break negative obsessive habits for the 1st time in 3 years. No sugarcoating but no obsessive topic tangents, this podcast is the facts, comprehensive and the full, whole truths in the onslaught of chaotic & fractious factionalism & bad actors’ war on facts. Thank you so much for your service to our country & the world. Your meticulous work is a huge contribution fills an essential part of a return to norms & ethics once practiced by the 4th branch, & it’s something I am so so grateful for!!

    The Weekly List (of mispronunciations)
A nice overview of the week’s news but OMG, please learn to pronounce people’s names, especially those who are in the news regularly. I cringe every time I hear an awkward mispronunciation on this podcast, which is frequently.
  • nofutureparttwo
    Pronunciation
Siskind’s podcast, like the counterpart Weekly Lists she compiles online, are invaluable resources (and a source of comfort) in these grave times. But for the love of God, Siskind struggles to speak words - slurring and mumbling, so much so that it makes it hard to listen at times. Frankly, she sounds drunk. I hit a breaking point, a few weeks ago, she referred to the leader of Turkey as “Ergo-dan.” (There are dozens of other examples). Look, I mispronounce stuff all the time, and the stories she’s following are certainly filled with more than a few non-western names, but it often feels like Siskind isn’t even making an effort, like she’s seeing each name for the first time as she reads from her notes. I feel bad for reviewing it on an arguably superficial merit - there are more important things to pay attention to - but I don’t understand why Siskind would make a podcast if she seems to have such intractable difficulty with speaking, or why she seems not to care if she butchers the names of the subjects of her reporting.

Week 108 — Keep up the good work, Amy!
You always seem to catch something I missed during the week. Very succinct.

    Getting better all the time
When this podcast started out, I was excited to listen to rather than read the List. But when Amy’s reading didn’t quite live up to my expectations, I went back to reading it to myself. This week I returned to find a polished performance and am delighted that Ms. Siskind has stuck with this challenging job. What a pleasure it is to hear her own words from her own mouth, despite the horror story they tell. Huge gratitude for all the labor that goes into this!

    Too bad
Great facts, but told too dryly and often stumbles over pronunciation of words, it is very annoying and disappointing because I really want to hear what she has to say. Maybe hire someone to read her script for her.

    Weekly List by Amy Siskind
Absolutely the best review of all that the Trump regime does that is eroding our democracy. Each podcast basically gives a review of the week from Saturday to Saturday. Siskind’s voice is a very important one in these chaotic times.

    Heartbroken
I’ve been following Amy Siskind for the last year and a half. I believed she was who she presented herself to be. This week I discovered she’s not a Democrat or even a liberal, not really. She pushed for Sarah Palin against Obama for President in 2012 (Sarah Palin with the ultra-conservative values and lower intellect than a bag of hair) and when that didn’t pan out she got behind sprayed-roach-crazy Michelle Bachman (she of the “pray the gay away” husband). When asked about these things on Twitter she pulled a great trump move. She denied it. But see for yourself. Google Amy and Sarah Palin. Listen to the words that come out of Amy’s mouth. Then jump ship. I’ve had enough bait and switch and lies. Finally, I’d like to say I feel personally betrayed. I’ve looked up to Amy. These are frightening times. It hurts like hell to find out one of your hero’s is a liar and batting for the other team. SAD!

    Beware of Siskind
I used to listen to this podcast religiously. However, Amy Siskind, it turns out, is an unapologetic Sarah Palin supporter. Her history includes urging division among Democrats who supported Barack Obama in favor of Sarah Palin, because she learned nothing from the inherent racism of the women’s suffrage movement. When confronted with this less than favorable judgment, Amy Siskind did not stone for the sins of her past. She instead instead that as a Resistance Leader, she should not be questioned, and chose not to lift up the voices of the black women rightfully challenging her, but demanded their silence and questioned their agency. I cannot recommend The Weekly List, when its creator has demonstrated such questionable judgement.

I listened, but then came across an article on the Daily Beast praising Sarah Palin in 2009.

    Critical podcast
This is a critical podcast for everyone who needs to be aware of all of the transgressions of the Trump administration. Hearing everything in one podcast isn’t for the faint of heart. If you know anyone who is wavering on the importance of voting, turn them on to this podcast. No one who listens will ever skip voting.

Thank you for the List and this podcast. You’re hard work and dedication are paying dividends for our democracy.

    The best
This podcast is the best encapsulation of what happened in the news of the nation the past week. Amy is so good at pointing out how far from normal our current political situation is- you get so inundated it’s hard to stay aware and focused. The weekly list lays the lies bare in a concise and very listenable way. It’s the one podcast I can’t wait to hear every week. Thanks Amy!

    Voice of Reason
This podcast tracks what has happened in our government in the previous week. I appreciate all Amy Siskind is doing to document the goings on that we will have to undo when reason prevails.

    History in sharpie
I’ve been following the List from the beginning. This is an invaluable archive of what has just happened in America in detail. Brilliant.

Amy Siskind blames white people for things they didn’t do.
A tweet she happen to delete on twitter where she states: “White mother beat a 92 year-old Hispanic man with a brick in the face on Independence Day.” She further goes on about it being about the president. Amy, or should I call you a race baiter? I hope people read this and see it for themselves.

Amy Siskind's Clarion Call to Protect Democracy
In both her book, The List, and her podcast, which is an oral version and in real time reckoning of the devolution of the Trump regime, Amy Siskind helps us keep track of the manifold ways Trump is seeking to destroy our norms, our institutions, to consolidate his own power and wealth. I can only help her list, a compendium of the racist, xenophobic, anti-woman and anti-LGBTQ+ policies of this regime, will help bring him down, energize the resistance, and help us arrive at a better place, a better America, when he is gone.

    Not what I hoped for
Filled with embarrassing mispronunciations of names and words longer than 3 syllables - this week I didn’t even recognize the word ”leptospirosis” until the third rewind - as well as sarcastic side comments and dramatic sighing. I like the written weekly list, an important endeavor - but this is proving painful to listen to. If it weren’t for the fact that it saves time by being something I can listen to on a walk or driving to work, I would unsubscribe. Some suggestions: keep the list, but leave the podcast to a professional. Or at least figure out your pronunciations prior to broadcast. And leave the heavy sighs behind, please. They’re immature.

    Must listen truth to power
Amy Siskind, scribe of The Weekly List, voices a weekly summary of the news related to our country’s movement toward consolidation of power by, and within, our executive branch. This podcast serves as a stand-alone summary, or as an accompaniment to her website. Quite well structured, beginning with summary and themes, followed by grouping and explanation of specific news items that inform and contextualize Trump’s authoritarianism and exercise of power. Thoughtfully organized and delivered by Ms. Siskind.

    Amy Speaks Truth to Power
Amy has been vigilant from day one of this regime in reporting out all the not normal activities which are the stepping stones to authoritarianism. She is holding everyone accountable and refusing to be distracted by the "shiny objects" tossed out in the media to distract us from what really is going on: the corruption and dismantling of our democracy.

    The Slide to Fascism, Documented
As a government becomes more and more autocratic, the changes start subtly, and accelerate as the state becomes a dictatorship. It can be useful to keep a list of these changes, noting them before you start to accept the new statism as"normal." Could that happen in the US? It is already happening, with the President openly admiring and praising authoritarian regimes and now "joking" that he should have "at least" two terms. This is THE LIST!

    A Must-listen
I’ve been a follower of Amy on twitter and she’s been far ahead of almost everyone in documenting the current crisis unfolding in our government and within our democracy. The weekly list she maintains of the norms and freedoms that are slowly being eroded that she documents are discussed in the podcast. This is important work and an excellent way to stay informed to ensure you know what is happening.

    The podcast America needs
Amy keeps us up to date and informed on where we are heading during the Trump regime. It’s not all wine & roses but that’s kind of the point. This pod is a great way to keep our eyes & ears open and reminds us to keep resisting in this age of lies. Keep up the great work Amy and thank you.

    Reality Check
This is how you keep your moorings in the chaos of this administration. Keep track of how abnormal it is and how far from our traditions and values Trump is veering. That’s how we will keep our democracy.
