Found the podcast relatively recently from the Ahsoka show but Oh My GIF, I laughed out loud more than I have more than any other media in a long time. Van is as funny and as good of a story teller as he is a reviewer. Even when he goes off on a tangent and has to get wrestled back to the task at hand it’s guaranteed to be a good time. This is clearly a group that loves media and nerdy pop culture , loves to dissect the media they love and will give things a fair shake. I try to only listen to episodes that cover what media I’ve already consumed but the chemistry of the cast makes this one of the highlights of all of my podcasts. It really feels like hanging out with friends.

I’ve listened to this feed since it was Jason and Mal doing Game of Thrones reviews. But I’ve finally had enough of Charles “the energy vampire” Holmes. Dude’s negativity has ruined the entire show for me. I love Van but that can’t erase Charles being my least favorite person on any podcast I’ve ever listened to. I simply only listen to House of R now because of Charles.

MB are always a fun listen, however I just have to skip through when they all gang up on Steve and dismiss it as “we love him OKAY, we are joking.” You can tell Steve is just so uncomfortable and nervous/ nice to say anything. I actually get mild anxiety with this and it makes for a terrible listen, why would I want that in my entertainment COME ON. Charles - however - is not only insufferable but… the more he talks and shows us more about his personality, the more unpleasant and immature he sounds. Ugh no.

I do enjoy some of the episodes. Need more of Jessica Clemons doing the Splash Page. The Midnight Boys can be funny, but if I have yo hear Charles sputtering and saying the word “like” a 100+ times an episode I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep listening

I’ve listened to nearly every episode for more than a year, and I’ll keep listening to every House of R, Mint Edition, and Button Mash. But I won’t listen to another TMB episode with Charles. He went from constructive and additive analysis to an insufferable caricature of himself. I stopped this years Midnight Mulligans episode after 13 minutes because I could not stand Charles any longer. I’ll truly miss listening to Van, Joni, and Steve. But I won’t waste my time with Charles just to hear them. Update: I just tried to listen to TMB after a long break, and my previous review stands. Charles is insufferable and I won’t listen to any podcast he’s on. Prestige TV, Button Mash, nothing. It’s not just his constant contrarian takes, it’s that he’s, simply, a jerk.

Love the pod, listen to the midnight boys weekly because no one else respects Marvel/SW/DC/etc more but they can’t get more than a few minutes without going full Gemini 1.0 ripping on “White people” this and “White people” that. Their racism gets tiring even though their content takes are next level. RIP Bard

I listen to the Midnight Boys when I go to sleep, everyone funny and cool, and with the whole "oh, anti-whiteness" with Steve.... The boys all clearly love him and it's a joke, I was off put by it but as any other friend group, they have their own humor and know when jokes go too far. Love the Ringer family and looking forward to season 4 review of The Boys!‼️❤️ (Also I'm literally 14 and I can tell their joking, bffr)

As a 42 year old white mother I just need to say you all are the best. I think the looser and more real your shows get the funnier and better they are. I have been listening from the beginning and I seriously think you level up every week. I thought 1/8 was my favorite episode but the episode today had me feeling every feeling.

Midnight boys has to be the greatest show at the ringer

I like Van but he is king of word salad. Seriously bruh will go on for five minutes on something he could have said in thirty five seconds. We get it: you love to hear yourself talk. The “ooh baby ooh daddy” isn’t funny, it’s just weird. Charles hates everything and is proud of it. “What are we doing?” is his catchphrase. Imagine Kermit the frog with a high opinion of himself constantly dropping the n-word. The “Explainer” can’t go three words without saying “like” when he is explaining anything. He seems really anxious and nervous whenever he speaks. Steve gets called out constantly for being white by Van and Chuck. Every week it’s a think piece or deep dive about the state of the MCU, the DCU, Star Wars, what they should do, what they shouldn’t have done. They don’t even enjoy the content they cover, so why cover it? The show has run its course and that’s ok.

Van disrespected “Hispanic” and “Latinos”, even though I hate those terms, I know you were referencing brown Americans like Mexicans, Dominicans and Central Americans. You implied that you got to the continent before the so called “Hispanics” and “Latinos”, which is just incorrect. They are the original people to this land, and Mexicans for example have on average 45 percent Indigenous American blood. Why do you think there are so many on then on this continent? But this is all by design. Black people have the struggle of dealing with the repercussions of slaver/disenfranchisement, and brown people have to deal with the constant struggle of feeling like strangers and foreigners in their ancestral homelands (which Europeans stole through mass genocide, shady contracts and racist policies), the continent of America. Did you know Mexicans and others are not able to answer the race question on the US census? This is done by design to keep Native American numbers down and continue the American Holocaust/ Native American genocide of this country. They want you to think the people they stole the land from are no longer here or are stuck on reservations. That is not true. Brown “Hispanic” and “Latinos” are Native Americans. I still love your podcast and enjoy your conversations. Hope this finds you and provides some perspective on something constantly overlooked. I appreciate the black brown alliance you guys push for. Thank you.

Long time listener first comment. I started listening to house of R and then midnight boys. Midnight boys seems more worried about lefty political ideals and anti steve(white) and every white person. Mostly Charles and Van. Hard to listen about fandom when you’re getting put in a box all day. My Last episode peace the f out.

Charles can no longer offer constructive criticism about anything. He now is openly admitting that he doesn’t want to do this and joking about taking on other jobs/how you’d have more listeners if you discussed wrestling. I am not here for wrestling. I’m here for fandom discussion about What If. I encourage you to take on another challenge in your professional life and move on from this show, Charles. We listeners would be grateful to have you off this otherwise pleasant podcast.

Just writing this to say I love the show. Feels like talking to friends about stuff you love. However, I need Jomi to finish Scavenger’s Reign NOW. This show is so beautiful and underrated and needs to be in everyone’s top for the year. Rant over.

The Midnight Boys’ ability to be complete Debbie Downers is astounding. Even when they admittedly like a show, they can’t help but sound like they hate it. I have wanted Charles to go for a while now because he hates everything; let him talk about “prestige” TV, as he so clearly wants to do. He’s infecting the rest of the team at this point.

They are hilarious, and I love the different points of view! Great chemistry.

House of R being given its own feed was the best thing to happen to it because there are pods in here that bring down the overall quality. The Midnight Boys are funny and can be insightful at times, but Charles’ hatred for everything that’s not absolutely perfect makes them nearly intolerable regularly (which is a shame because hearing his coverage of The Bear on Prestige was actually great). Nobody wants to tune in each week to just hear someone bash the shows or movies they enjoy. Then the other content that’s Mashed into this feed is only really worth following if you’re into what they’re talking about. Which is fine, but would be easier to get into if they had their own feed. In short, this used to be a fun place to hang, but now that House of R is gone, it’s fallen off a cliff.

Used to listen to them a lot but they’re no negative about everything. Used to appreciate their level of knowledge but it’s just marvel bashing and turning into an audio version of Facebook at this point.

Have been listening to this podcast since it first came out and always look forward to the midnight boys’ instant reactions. Lately they seem disappointed in everything but hopefully will get back on track. Maybe adding some categories like the rewatchables would keep them from devolving into arguments? Will keep listening!

I used to love house of R and the midnight boys, but I’m now so happy that house of r has their own feed. The midnight boys seem to be so fatigued with the content they cover that they should probably find new hosts. They’re so unhappy and angry with everything they review these days it’s genuinely unlistenable. The most recent marvel entries have actually been fun again, but of course there’s nothing but negativity to be shared. I think it’s fine to take some time off or rotate hosts, but guys if you’re this miserable doing your jobs you should find a new one.

I’m giving this a five star because I love this podcast so much but genuinely it feels like they’ve stopped enjoying content which isn’t fun to listen to. I get secret invasion was bad and Ashoka did not have the story they wanted, but this last episode of Loki was the last straw. I turned it off before listening to the episode just because they sounded so dreary.

This is not working. Love the ringer, but this is the low point. Shame because it’s a great genre. Get new hosts

If you want every show you watch to be torn apart by dubious criticism, then the Midnight Boys are for you. I enjoy their humor, but the nitpicking and the suspect critiques often make no sense and ignore the details of the shows. Very often, I feel they are pandering to certain critics and to the incels that watch a lot of these shows. It’s disappointing as they seem like good guys. Jo and Mal are better, but they often parrot critics as well, especially Alan Sepinwall. I like it when they stick to their own takes.

Used to be my favorite ‘nerd’ podcast, but Charles has made the show unlistenable. The other guys just enable his at this point. Use to be a celebration of the nerd verse, now it seems they hope for its demise. Sad turn of events….

While Mal and Jo don’t quite have the same chemistry as Mal and Jason, I enjoy their dynamic enough to make their deep dives highly enjoyable. As for the Midnight Boys: Van + Charles + Jomi + Steve = Chef’s Kiss. It’s the closest I get to being able to enjoy nerd content with friends.

Episode for episode this is the best pod at the Ringer. They combine nerd, sports and pop culture with a run of jokes that hit for me. It's like a secondary friend group...except they don't know I exist.

I have loved the midnight boys but the content has gone severely downhill. A lot of immaturity, low key misogyny, and Charles just enjoys hating everything. It’s fantasy movies and television can we not take it so seriously? Too much of a downer.

Tighten up the opening, too much random banter

If you’re a bro who likes bro things, this is for you. Charles is a hater, Van is loud, and no one else can get a word in. Subtle misogyny and outright ageism gets tired. I’m glad Mal and Joanna are on their own feed so I can hear thoughtful analysis rather than just knee-jerk reactions.
