    Truth tellers
I find it absurd about a few reviews. I think probably these women are negated, because they are women. Because apparently truth can only be told by men. However, the biggest majority of us believe that women at the truth tellers and so these two women hold the gauntlet for all of us.

    LOVE!!!!
I love this podcast!!! I have learned so much!!! Please listen if you like history. It gives me things to talk with my friends about, and I encourage everyone to listen to it! The ads are annoying, but it is super easy to skip past them.

    Intro/Outro/Ads
The intro, outro, and ads are longer than the actual podcast. Not worth your time if you want to listen to a podcast and not a bunch of ads. I listen to podcasts that are an hour+ long with less ad time

    Fantastic podcast
Interesting stories, engagingly presented. I appreciate the quality of the research, and the broad range of stories they cover. The hosts are articulate, funny, and personable; I especially enjoy their “behind the scenes” commentary each week. This is my go-to podcast, year after year.

    Entertainment and education!
Love, love, love these two women! They always bring facts, and fun to every episode. I always come away knowing something new from history. Add the hilarious banter and you have it all wrapped up in a wonderful bow! Thanks💓

    Good but…
It’s good but the hosts ARE WOMAN. Everyone knows woman aren’t real, there are only men and babies are grown in labs.

    Fun, interesting and knowledgeable
This is my favorite podcast!! I listen to it while working and I like that I always learn something new. Thanks to the hosts for making history more approachable, fun and interesting! (It’s true that the ads increased, but I just skip them :P)

    Like content, trouble with hosts
I had listened to the show for years. The content has been consistently interesting and engaging. Unfortunately, I have found the Tracy and Holly to have incredibly annoying vocal tones. They are both incredibly nasally. Not only do I have difficulty listening to the tone of their voices and the constant giggling, but most annoyingly is the overly enunciated French and foreign language pronunciations. These pronunciations are so exaggerated, it's incredibly annoying. Does not sound natural at all. I get the feeling the only ones they are satisfying with these of noxious pronunciations is themselves. I listen intermittently for the content but can rarely make it to the end given the annoying sound of the hosts. I have no idea why HSW supports two hosts who clearly have no vocal training to host this wonderful show FYI, the overall rating of the show is clearly a vestige of how amazing rghe experience of tge show was before these two took over. It is tragic and profoundly confusing. I really loves this show back in the day. I tried recently to go back and listen to the early episodes, but apparently Holly is doing some of the ads and her nasally drone that seems to cry out for a correction of her deviated septum was so triggering to me. When I heard heard her voice come on over the ad, I wanted to smash something. It is just impossible for me to understand why these nasally and obnoxious people are allowed to keep ruining what was a nice podcast. I’m a scientist. I would never go into my lab and continue to do things that would contraindicate the objective of science for my own hubris. Why the hosts think it’s OK to drone on in this nasally tone and ruin the show is beyond me. Or maybe the guilt lies with the people who own the show. Either way I’m just so frustrated. I can’t even listen to old episodes as, that nasally obnoxious voice is going to be doing ads.

    History of Sparrow
Listening to this podcast was like being in high school. It was not a topic I particularly care about but I love history The narrative was giggly. Don’t know if it was another podcast or the same. A girl and guy who flirted with each other more than give information. Most sound like they goggle information so they can talk to a microphone or whatever they use. Why not get into something that is more related to history than some off topic with little or no substance. It’s like the history channel making knives. My suggestions act more professional and find topics that more people are interested in.

    Yada yada lame
I like the content but can’t stand the commercials. Too many and too annoying. The yada yada one is the last straw. I no longer like Jason Alexander for the same commercial. So annoying. I’m done

Judging the past with today’s standards
I listened to the recent episode about Alexei Stakhanov - and the hosts judge his marriage with his young wife by their 2024 American eyes. Alexei Stakhanov was a Russian from the 1930s who married a teenager. While most Americans frown upon something like this. I would say in his country at that time it was not uncommon. Something to consider when trying to understand historical figures.

Like listening to someone read a wiki page
I listened to a few great episodes, then took a break for a year. When I came back something shifted— the hosts seem to be reading, which in and of itself is fine, but in this case comes off as tedious. I really wanted to love this.

    Ruined by ads
Iheartradio must not hear podcasts, because they have stuffed this one full of ad breaks. It’s be fine if there was one or two ads a the beginning, but it stops every five minutes for a long break. Unsubscribed.

    Way too many ads!
I love this podcast! Love, love love it! But, the number of ads has gotten beyond ridiculous! Both the number and frequency. It feels like I’m spending more time listening to ads than to the actual show. It’s getting incredibly frustrating!

    Too many commercials
Love the content. Way too many commercials. Such a excess. So disappointing. How many sponsors do you really need?

    My Favorite Podcast!
This is, by far, been my favorite podcast! Super interesting topics and the hosts are quite thorough in their review. The ads have increase a ton, but I just skip through them (and chalk it up to the increasing popularity of the show).
  • Grberkh
    Could be great
I love the topics, but Way too many adds.

    Too many adverts
Good info but they cram in too many adverts - sometimes there seems to be more sponsor break than show. Sometimes the hosts feign being upset about dark content to the point that it’s rather silly. If history ‘triggers’ you that much then choose a different subject for your podcast.

Couple of Smart, Detail Oriented, Silly, Goofy at times Ladies. All Great
Love what you two ladies provide. I enjoy your work, voices, giggles, laughter etc. The information you provide is phenomenal. Thank you kindly
  • Save me from work
    Commercials like cable tv
12 minutes of useless talking, 5 minutes of commercials… it’s like listening to MTV but worse

    Favorite Podcast
I adore this podcast and the hosts. Their approach is more informal and not a deep dive into topics. Best way I can describe it is like listening to very close friends talk about something they are passionate about. At first you might not get all the side references but after a few episodes you find yourself thinking classic Holly or good find Traci!

    Just not engaging
Some interesting topics and good research, but the format and chatter were just not engaging enough.
  • Dont throw money away
Aa interesting as an Amway presentation..
Episodes are frequently filled with pointless chatter that has nothing to do with the listed topic. More often than not, a waste of time.
  • ListeningShopGirl
Wanted so much to like it but…
You can’t tell history from the past through the lens of today. This is annoying at best, dangerous at worst. History is history because of what happened in the PAST. Stop trying to woke-ify everything. I gave it a shot on several episodes because the topics looked very interesting. Had to unfollow because of the uneducated interpretation.

    Like the show, but....
“We interrupt this ad to bring you a brief podcast”. I like the show, I like the subjects discussed, but holy moly the ad to show ratio is really aggravating.

    Fav history podcast
I love the engaging stories of history they present and yet they do it in a simple way that still get my attention. There is also something comforting about the hosts when they speak they are also clear in their dialogue.

    Used to love this show
I used to really, really love this show. I could listen for hours. Holly and Tracy are my favorite podcasters, full stop. But the show has been so overloaded by ads that’s it’s become impossible to listen to. Every now and then I’ll put on an episode and never finish it because the ads are so disruptive. I hope iHeart figures it out before they ruin their best show.

    Too many commercials
Can’t get past the commercials. It’s what killed AM/FM radio I once enjoyed but no longer listen to. Thanks iHeart radio.
  • mtnall
    Ads ads ads
Pretty ridiculous number of ad breaks making the episodes pretty short.
  • WepneX
    Far too many ads
I’ve listen to Stuff You Missed in History for a decade and the ads have gotten out of control. They play the same ads multiple times each episode and maybe this program has run its course for me. I live the show but find myself tuning out during the ads and never actually tuning back in. There’s easily 10+ minutes of ads in each episode and every time the hosts announce an ad break I groan.
  • WildWoodComs
    Disappointing
    Great topics, poorly executed

    iHeart put too many ads
This show is great and I’ve been listening for almost a decade. I love learning new things & the approach to enjoying history. Very annoyed that, since the move to iHeart Radio, there are nearly 10 mins of ads in every episode. They’re jarring and unrelated to the show. Wishing Holly & Tracy the best!

    I love this show

Just an awesome podcast when everything is too complicated
I listen to a lot of politics but it’s just too much to binge listen over a weekend . Stuff I missed is probably the longest podcast I’ve ever listened to or at least the most hours. It’s calmer, soothing, interesting and fun than things like the news. :)

    The best history show ever!!!!
I have graduated and finished all the past shows, all of the hosts have been great but I still think Holly and Tracy rule the roost. There is an undeniable chemistry (as good as Josh and Chuck, just not the same). You Ladies (and gent) have been a great source of knowledge and entertainment. Thank you.

    Interesting Topics … Judgmental Hosts…
My rating is based on the current hosts and the way they address the audience. No, it’s not because they’re women. No, it has nothing to do with their voices. While I’m ok with podcasts hosts or hosts of any type of media offering their opinion — and that’s inevitable, we’re all humans with our own unique take on things and it would be odd if their personalities and views on topics they discuss don’t come across. But my issue is how condescending they are when talking about opposing views that don’t fit in with theirs. History is messy and complicated, and you can hear the scoffs and eye rolls through your headphones when they talk about people and situations who acted in ways that don’t fit in with their socially acceptable views. While there is a lot of commentary I DO agree with (in opinion, but not in how it’s said), this talking down to the audience, as if we’re dum dums who don’t understand why left leaning, socially liberal policies are the ultimate way to approach things, isn’t pleasant to listen to. Even when older episodes are played as re-runs, they feel the need to preface some of these episodes apologizing for the way the old hosts talked about some of these issues, like gender, criminality, etc. Come on… is that necessary? It went from a lighthearted show with hosts like Josh, Candace, Katie, Dublina, that was a fun conversational look at history to this more heavy thing which an undercurrent of how dare you not understand how racist we all were and still are. It gets tiring.
  • mr waldoooo
Ok show but with a little too much liberalism
The show has allot of very interesting facts about historical events and objects. The problem I find id the hosts don’t seem to have the ability to just tell an interesting story without their political commentary. Its a real shame. Just a little advice. Keep history content and dump your political grand standing no one is going to be listening to this podcast for your views

    Way Too Many Ads
I’ve been listening from as early as this podcast goes (2009) and have noticed a terrible trend. In 2009 the ads were at the beginning and the end, the show was around 15 minutes. I thought the ads were too long at around 5 minutes per episode, and audio quality was not great, but these are 14 year old episodes so I gave it a pass. 2010 and 2011 saw the episode length increase, the audio quality increased, and the ad length stayed the same. Then in 2012 there was a horrible change. The audio quality tanked with a warble in the sound and horrible static, and they suddenly started putting ads in the middle of the episode. There are almost 10 minutes worth of ads per episode now. They tend to suddenly cut in and and are very jarring, and the ads themselves are typically loud and obnoxious. I’m giving it some more time since I’m so far behind but I’m really unhappy so far with the direction the show took.

    Love it
This podcast is amazing I love watching it and appreciate all the hard work they put into research. The only thing is the new ads are kinda weird
