    Excellent
Ben Leonard is the best; so thorough and well spoken! Cant wait for the next episode!

    Anti-woman
You did a whole episode about maternal mortality without mentioning once the gender of the victims or acknowledging the fact that this issue affects women and mothers. The format is good… the vocal fry is a lot.

    Vocal Fry is Unbearable
Ben Leonard is probably a good reporter, but his vocal fry makes this show impossible to listen to.

    Not long enough
Needs to be longer than 13 minutes

    Biased reporting
I unfollowed after a completely uncritical interview with someone who “couldn’t say why insulin in the US market is so expensive” we all know why it is so expensive, price fixing in the American market. And the fact that you would interview someone who won’t even utter those words. And the fact that the host didn’t push back at all, this is not a serious news reporter.

    Great, succinct updates on COVID
I’m an internal medicine resident, and I try to keep up on health policy. PulseCheck has been a great, succinct way to keep up on health policy while working a busy schedule as a medicine resident!

To bad you don’t have open minds
As a user of hydroxychloraquine it can and has helped for many. We should use all avenues to get through this epidemic instead of only using very expensive drugs. It is too bad you follow the party line.

    Health policy at its best
Dan is a perfect host. He has interesting guests for reasonably deep dives. He probes further when appropriate. Overall he leaves guests more (or newly) informed about critical issues in health policy.
  • Multiplyd
    Solid, informative
Dan is a great reporter. Imthis is a wonky podcast that those who are interested in healthcare would really enjoy. It talks about policy and politics related to the health industry. Good guests appearances..

    Great!
Just listened the the Scott Gottlieb interview, extremely articulate intelligent dedicated person. He will be missed. I love the in-depth coverage of issues. The interviews are the best. Conversations that last longer then just sound bites. Don asks pointed questions and his guests have time to fully respond.

    Perfectly Wonky
I have learned so much from this podcast. As a health policy student, pulse check has been my most useful tool in keeping up with health policy news. Its also taught me new things and gave me more insider knowledge than i could have gotten from a class! Love dan diamond and love pulse check!

    Quintessential Health Policy Pod
My go-to podcast for the latest and greatest health policy news. Fair and equal portrayal of the issues and Dan Diamond miraculously avoids business jargon despite being an ex-consultant. Pairs well with a New England IPA and the daily Politico Pulse newsletter.

    Wonderful
Informative, thoughtful, critical - can't believe I haven't found this until now. Looking forward to the And the Band Played On book club.

    I Love Politico
The reporters at Politico are the best in the business. It is interesting to hear their panel discussion but my favorite episodes feature, as (the legendary) Susan Glasser put it in her podcast The Global Politico, "news-making conversations about [politics] with those who are helping shape it." Recent episodes of Pulse Check that I enjoyed were the interviews with FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and Surgeon General Jerome Adams about combatting the rise of e-cigarette use among teenagers. Also, the intro to this week's episode is epic.

    Love it ...
First time listening to this podcast was the end of 2018 ( my loss !! ) but after binge listening I fell completely IN LOVE with the podcast and the in depth thoughts and conversations!! Will be a listener from 2018-infinity!! Would STRONGLY suggest and plead everyone to give this podcast a listen.

Gem for all levels of healthcare knowledge
Have been subscribed for over a year now, and this is just a terrifically done podcast. The range of guests, from health workers to policy ppl to journalists to politicians to activists is remarkable and always keeps the perspective fresh. Huge respect to DD who is a fairly tough interviewer, but also takes the time to seamlessly explain some of the more “insider” terms that are used in conversation. In particular, loved the episodes w the data scientist, Scott Gottlieb and of course, Atul. Keep up the great work!

    Needs more confrontation
Dan Diamond's interview with Dan Barber would have been better if he at least questioned some of the claims that Barber was making. Without any pushback, it makes it sound like an infomercial for organics, which are not as "wholesome" as the industry would distract you into believing. Perhaps you could get a food scientist who specializes in feeding billions to clarify some of Barber's comments.

    Dan Barber Interview
Love Dan’s passion and approach to changing the American food culture toward a healthier, far more delicious and pleasurable way of living. At the same time it simultaneously integrates more environmentally friendly food production. Terrific!

    Great healthcare updates!
I love the in-depth healthcare news and the interviews. Dan diamond is a great host. I’ve scoured a lot of healthcare podcasts and this is a good one!

    Awesome podcast! (+ interview recommendation)
Fantastic podcast- how about interviewing Rebekah Gee, MD the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health? She’s overseeing a major paradigm shift in how the state treats hepatitis C. Louisiana is also addressing infant mortality rates and seeing real progress! New York and California better watch out, Louisiana is a rising star!

    Very deep interviews
This is very educational! Discussions take time and drill deep into subjects with lots of follow up questions. Significantly contributes to an informed mind.

    Great coverage and great guests
Always covering the most current topics in health and healthcare and features fantastic guests to speak to current issues. Well worth a listen.

    Very valuable
As someone interested in the healthcare industry, I find a lot of food for thought from this podcast. Dan Diamond brings in very interesting guests and is himself very knowledgeable. I would appreciate more episodes like the one with Slavitt and Galespie where two experts with differing views discuss various issues. Also would love to hear more episodes about healthcare start-ups (Oscar insurance was great!).

    Indispensable in health care
If you’re interested in health care and health policy, Politico PulseCheck is simply indispensable. It’s the Classic Coke of health podcasts. Dan Diamond is a fantastic, fair-minded host. The guests he books are often titans in the industry. He asks excellent questions and also engages with his audience. On multiple occasions I’ve tweeted him a question about the podcast and he has responded directly to my questions. I really can’t recommend in highly enough.

    Spread the Word
Dan Diamond is a talented interviewer with a great voice (in every way). I just learned about Pulse Check and will definitely be listening on a regular basis.

    Absolutely a must have!
Absolutely love this podcast! As someone who is rather new in the field of health policy, I enjoy getting to hear about other topics I don’t currently deal with and the segments about how these individuals started on their career path. I’m not sure if you have done an episode about gun violence prevention and it as a public health issue. I work at a non-profit that does research to address the lack of communication that can prevent school shootings and would love to hear other voices, opinions etc. on the topic!
  • Cady1717
    Love the show
Dan- I am an avid listener Your coverage is broad, smart and always interesting. It ought one of the best was with Jonathan Bush (and of course Atul Gawande). Have you every interview Judy Faulkner of Epic? Would be fascinating. Thanks for your efforts! Keep it up.

    Theranos Episode
I couldn’t stop listening to Dan’s interview with John Carreyrou. Such a good story with great journalists.
  • HealthNerdette
    Theranos takedown episode is great
Terrific interview with Carreyou. Valuable background and intrigue. More book authors? Health books of course.

    Essential listening
Dan Diamond's Pulse Check is essential listening for anyone who wants a deeper dive into the most salient, current issues in health care and health policy.

Keep the ONC and CMS news coming
Dan has an earnest voice that doesn’t hold back when he interviews a smoke blower. Or vape blower for that matter. I’d like to hear more from officials at CMS and ONC who are making policy that impacts all of us in healthcare and the public. There are great bits of info in the Morning eHealth newsletter that Dan and company could expand on in the podcast. I like that when they are not able to get a long format interview with their sources they can talk as reporters about what they are finding out. Keep the dad jokes coming, Dan. Great book selections. Dreamland was shocking and informative. But there is no need to apologize when the audio quality is bad. We get it. You are on the run or in the field sometimes and you can’t control the quality.
  • Frank David (Pharmagellan)
A unique and important voice in health care
Dan’s podcast is a must-listen not just for health care policy aficionados, but also for folks in biopharma, etc. (like me) who are trying to navigate the evolving landscape. His guests are consistently engaging and informed, and Dan is a first-rate interviewer who elicits thoughtful and thought-provoking ideas from them.
  • ananymous92413153737141
    Horrifying anti women episode
I am DONE with Dan Diamond and will seriously question the journalistic validity of any Politico publication going forward now that Pulse Check has acted as a platform to promote Marjorie Dannenfelser’s frighteningly warped views of women, women’s civil and human rights.
  • Simply Lemonade
    Mostly policy, still great
Best healthcare podcast out there. I work for a large payer and its so helpful to have this, helps me stay abreast of whats going on. I wish there was more on the private sector. The podcast is mostly about whats going on in policy, thats great, but i want to know what the payers are doing. What the providers are doing. What pharma is doing. What wall street is thinking about all of it. Dan is a fantastic interviewer though. And production quality is perfect, which is rare for wonky podcasts like this.

    Great Podcast
Great Podcast! Highly recommend for anyone interested in health policy. Would love to see Seema Verma on the pod!

    Cost of ACA and religion
The recent podcast on freedom of religion and the unfolding cost of the ACA is absolutely refreshing in its bluntness. No sugar coating. Give it to us straight, no chaser.
  • Prican3
    Must listen!
I have to say that before listening to D.Diamond and the crew, I had zero to little interest in health care news. But with the battle over the ACA the past year, I had the good fortune of stumbling onto this podcast and it has been a must listen ever since. If you are interested in health care this podcast is a no-brainer but if your just interested in current events this is also for you. Thanks Dan and all parties that put this podcast together, your work is vital and appreciated!

Great podcast on health policy and politics
I look forward to this podcast each week. The interviews bring me perspectives from government, business, nonprofit, academia, and media. The news roundups help me keep up with lesser known/covered but still important stories each week.

    "Chaos is a ladder"
I love this podcast with one caveat, which is that it struck me recently that Dan Diamond's tone and approach are reminiscent of Little Finger from "Game of Thrones" and now I can't stop thinking about it. Will revise to 5 stars if the host can switch to emulating a different GoT character (Varys!?).
  • DavidfromIndy
    Outstanding
Outstanding job by Dan Diamond! One of the best journalists around.
