    Gorgeous
I laughed, I cried, I binge listened not once but twice, back to back, because the music and story and characters and acting are *that* good.

    In Strange Woods
A haunting, beautiful podcast about grief and how it stays with you and how individuals and communities each react to tragedies. I’ve been thinking about the songs and storyline for days, and as soon as I finished the show, I turned around and listened to it again to get everything with the full context again.

Stunning in every way, shape, and form.

    Pretty boring, politically punctured
    A waste of good talent.

    I get emotional
The main story of this musical gets me really emotional. I can’t imagine what I would do if this happened to my family or with my sister and it really hit home for some reason

    Definitely a must listen
I really loved this podcast. (I may or may not have listened to it in one day😅) Over all it was a great podcast and I yelled at my phone a few times because of something that happened in this podcast. I have recommended this podcast to a lot of friends and family and this is definitely a must listen. - Margaret O

    Unexpectedly loved!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when this podcast was recommended to me. I typically stick to true crime and sports podcasts but this was so good! The musical element was a beautiful layer to a well told story and it was easy to follow (which I don’t say very often about audio entertainment as I get distracted a lot). Highly recommend to anyone who likes musicals and detailed storylines.

    Nice
The most unusual podcast I’ve ever listening to, because it’s partially musical, however, the story is really hocked me. Really cool😎

    Great audio movie!
This is a beautifully produced, beautifully sung and acted story. It felt like a movie but through my ears only. The songs, instrumental music and dialogue were so engaging. I loved the format and style of this podcast and hope there are others like it to enjoy!

    Musical Podcasts Rock
Heard Jeff’s interview on Patrick Oliver Jones’ podcast While I’ll Never Make It (WINMI). I had to check out this episodic musical podcast. Love the singing!! Listening carefully for those “Mic” differences.

    Love!
I got into Atypical Artists, and podcasts, from the Bright Sessions and I am not disappointed with any of their shows so far. I’ve only listened to a few of their stuff, but this was one of my favorites from them. If they ever did another musical podcast I would be all over it and definitely give it a whirl.

    Entertaining
Intriguing story idea and talented cast. The music had a bit of a sameness to it after a while.

    Simply, yes
I love this podcast. The story is captivating and the music is wonderful. I even have the album in my music library. Honestly, this is the only podcast that I have re-listened to over and over. I want more……….

    Really liked the beginning!
Loved the first three episodes, particularly the second one, but the fourth episode lost me. Felt like the writers were trying too hard to make a character unlikable in order to make an ambivalent ending. Skip the fourth, and it’s a better podcast.

    BEST PODCAST EVER!
This is the most interesting and innovative cast I’ve heard! The story was interesting and the talent of the cast positively amazing! I was so sad when it ended! I hope to hear more from these folks and more like this! You gotta listen!!!

    Gorgeous and emotional
The story was well told and surprising, the music was beautiful, and if the Minnesota accents were a little overdone, the powerful performances compensated perfectly. A wonderful musical. I give it a standing ovation.

    A Change for Good
Amazing talent! I loved the musical aspect of this show, especially as it allows a different part of the actors’ talents to be show cased. Great story telling and a big change from my usual true crime that I binge.
  • really cool someone
    So glad this story exists
NPR mystery broadway survival thriller. The story is gripping, the format is refreshing, the themes are deep, and the characters feel real. Really enjoyed this

    One of the best
For me, it was in my top 2-3 podcasts ever. Music, writing, performance were all on point. Come and find me.

    So good!
I was skeptical at first about a musical podcast, but it was SO GOOD! The story, the writing, the music, the singing, and the acting were all excellent.

    I loved it
I wasn’t sure I would after the first few minutes, but I kept going and fell in love with the story and characters. Atypical Artists is my new favorite podcast group. So far I’ve loved everything I’ve listened to. Thanks for making uniquely original shows♥️

    Surprisingly Entertaining
I’m not a nut about musicals, but I really enjoyed how it brought these characters to life. And some of the songs are catchy!

    Loved it
This is a gift for musical lovers everywhere, especially during these tough times. I was not only impressed by its format (I’ve never heard of a musical podcast!) but thought it was also really well executed. Recording and putting everything together remotely during covid must not have been an easy task, but the end product is truly worthwhile. Thank you for giving us something new, innovative, and genuinely moving this year!

True crime, coming of age and show tunes!!
Love it! Great writing, fabulous voice actors and a great score - I want to get the album!

    Read the description people!
I thought this was so unique. I’m really enjoying it. I’m confused by the low ratings because it’s a musical and has singing. It clearly says this in the description. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

    Vibes
This is insanely good! Listened to it all within half a day because I couldn’t stop... give it a listen!

    I liked it
I was just trying to find something to listen to when I work. So I didn’t really care what I was listening to. At first when they sang I thought “what?” But the voice acting and story was really good. Most of the singing was not to my preference, but some songs were kinda catchy.

    Loved it
Loved the story. My son and I looked forward to car drives just to catch up on the story! Very unique play on story telling.

    Why a musical?
Seems like a good podcast but I can’t get over that fact that it’s a musical. I missed that part on the description.

    An Unusual and Moving Podcast
It’s not what you think it is when you hear “podcast musical.” It’s vivid and moving and thought provoking and people sing. It’s different and worth a listen. I wish there were a soundtrack because I’d like to re-listen to some of the songs.
  • FairyFiles
    Wonderful!
Great storytelling, wonderful to listen to. Binged in a day and wish there was more!

Fantastic - felt like listening to a Broadway musical!
I binged this podcast - it was soooooo good! This songs were beautiful and the singing was amazing. The storyline was different and made me think. I cried and cried in the first and last episodes. I will recommend this podcast over and over! I eagerly await anything else from this team!!

Great but also some unrealistic story lines
I was skeptical after learning that this was a musical but I became really hooked and actually really liked it. Some of the characters are hilarious are hilarious and I really liked the songs. However, there were some holes in the storyline that partially ruined things for me: 1) you do not prepare for wilderness survival by simply doing calisthenics and shuttle runs...that part was real weird. 2) they’ve been training for wilderness survival for weeks and they don’t know what to do when someone breaks their wrist??!!!!!! Regardless, it’s definitely worth the listen!

    Unexpectedly amazing!
I was truly blown away by the quality of this musical podcast. The songs were wonderful, the singing was top-notch, and the depth of the storyline was impressive.

    Car ride
I listened to the first episode not realizing that this presentation was both gripping story & musical. On a long car ride I started the series again and listened all the way through. Amazing. Please write another like this! Thanks

    Wow ❤️
I was NOT expecting to cry this much! The clearing song really got to me. What a fun, exciting, touching story!!! If you’re not familiar with musicals the songs may feel strange to you, but I thought the format worked wonderfully for a podcast! And what great songs, too!! I had a few quibbles with the poor wilderness safety skills they learned (in particular not practicing using communication/planning with others), but it definitely makes sense in the overall story.

    Well done!
I loved this!! It’s different than anything I’ve listened to before. It captured my interest from the first episode and I finished it just 2 days later.
  • Clownman187
Give it a chance, it’s worth it.
Give this podcast a chance. It starts off slow but after you get to the 2nd episode, you won’t want to stop listening. Great story with great songs mixed in.
  • colleenvickers
    Binge-worthy!!
I binged this over two evening and am recommending it to everyone I know. It’s just wonderful!!! I’d love to see the full live stage production of this. I think it could really translate to stage well. Don’t hesitate, just listen!
  • CLandtennis
    Musical crime podcast?! Yes!
Captivating story, so cleverly intricate with twists and turns… Throw in some catchy musical numbers and good character development and you have an addictive series! Can’t wait to see the spin off on Broadway!
  • moocoweyes
    Super unique!
This was unlike any podcast I’ve listened to before! I really liked it, and I’d be perfectly ok with more musical podcasts being developed! Great production.
  • Cassydoodle
The singing makes the whole thing cheesy
The story captured my attention but the singing was not a good addition to the story.

    Emotional Journey
This podcast was an emotional journey I was NOT prepared to take. The themes through this series really hit home with me. If you have a few silent hours to fill up, absolutely listen to this.
  • Jacob Barker
    Wonderful!
I highly recommend this musical podcast. This fictional story unfolds in the style of a mystery podcast documentary mixed with a musical. It’s so interesting. The musical performances are great. Just go listen to it!
  • lindafaylewis
