The guests are diverse in terms of topics and style. They discuss all the topics around having a creative business—strategy, client management, burnout, creative inspiration. They’re informative while being inspiring. As a bonus, the women of Goodtype are hilarious.

The Typecast is still my favorite podcast of its kind and I don’t think that will ever change. Katie and Ilana are so engaging and fun, and they really incorporate so many different aspects into their shows. I particularly plan to revisit their most recent episode about creative exploration and mental health advocacy as I was recently diagnosed with generalized anxiety and major depressive disorders. If you’re not watching their podcast on YouTube as well (and have the ability), check them out there too!

I started listening to the Typecast after my first “Kernference” in 2023 (a type/lettering/design conference with the nicest attendees and hosts!). As a new designer getting out into the field, this podcast has armed me with so much knowledge and confidence!

I wanna tell you that you’ve completely changed my life at a time when I needed a change, as i am transitioning out of nursing and back to my creative self. your warmth your humour your generosity, your intellect, your experience, your expertise, your humility…I could go on but I’ll say that you deserve all the success you can get and way more, prosperity forever of all types for you. I am certain you’re giving a lot of people a chance for success - professionally and humanly - including me! every time I hear anyone on your podcast - a designer or resource, or anything random - I write it down immediately even if all I have is a crumpled wet napkin and a pen that has all the napkin fibres on it. Listening to The Typecast by Goodtype is like stepping into the art studio you’ve yearned for all your life. It’s filled with knowledge, excitement, laughs, and of course plenty of natural light. Katie and Ilana’s enthusiasm and energy for creating is infectious. And there’s no area of lettering, stationary, graphic design, product selling, and all around creative business topics they don’t touch, because they have done it all. It’s so refreshing when you find creatives so willing to help other creatives. <3 I make sure to put this podcast on when I am feeling creatively overwhelmed, or in the dumps and it always leaves me feeling re-energized and excited to tackle whatever my newest project is. They make every episode a joy to listen to. It's more than just a podcast; it's a beacon of hope and encouragement for anyone daring enough to chase their biggest design dreams. They also have mastered the art of laughing into the mics without full sending the audio, or overstimulating me! Big win.

The Type Cast is such an exceptional and amazing podcast. Katie and Ilana are fantastic hosts and discuss topics that are relevant to designers, freelancers, and business owners across multiple creative fields. They also have the absolute best guests! I still listen even if it seems like a topic that I might not have an interest in because there’s always great nuggets of wisdom that I can apply to my business and creative practice. 5 stars, 10/10 definitely recommend!

Ilana and Katie host one of the best design podcasts around. Each show is packed with useful info presented in an engaging and often funny way. Great guests and great conversations. If you’re writing in any design space, you’ll love this show!
