It really helped me to have you all as “friends” in watching this incredible series. I am a latecomer to The Americans…and absolutely LOVED every minute of the show.

Please do more of the complicated shows that can benefit from your extra research in the times, gadgets, etc. What are you doing now? I miss your Podcasts and so many good shows could benefit from your analysis.

Due to the complex storylines and extensive communication of important facts through non-verbal communication in The Americans, it is easy to miss a lot of important details in every episode, especially when binge watching. I found this podcast to be an invaluable resource to listen to after each episode to help me process what I had seen and make sure I could follow the thread. Great show made even better by Chip and Sarah’s recaps, analysis, and extra info on tech and history.

Chip and Sarah love The Americans FX show as much as my wife and I do. Many listeners call in and leave comments as well as entertaining “crackpot theories”. Sorry that this wonderful show has concluded but the podcasts are worth listening to for anyone binge watching to find out what all the excitement was about.

This podcast is an excellent companion to this underrated but excellent show. The hosts have a real passion for the material and it shows during their discussions. Chip and Sara do a great job covering all things about The American’s.

As hungry as I am for podcasts reviewing The Americans I just can’t sit through the (basically) re-reading of the script.

Good content in the feedback and historical context episodes, but I can't listen to the recap episodes, they're just torturous. Maybe the hosts literally think people will listen to this podcast rather than watch the show, because they describe the episode verbatim, right down to minutia like "he responds 'yeah.'"

I just started watching The Americans and am on Season 2. I was just about to give up on it feeling like I need a Political Science degree to understand what the heck is going on! Then I found this podcast. It is thorough, interesting and very enjoyable! Keep up the good work!

Secondly, if you're caught up and want to relive some of the shows best episodes without re-watching or just want some more in depth perspective to an episode or 10, download all these available and listen. Finally, subscribe to this podcast and do what i do- listen to every recap and feedback episode after you watch - it (a) totally helps you understand missing pieces before the next week's episode, (b) is a phenomenal recap of the thriller you just watched, (c) provides a fantastic travel back in time perspective through analysis of the 1980s Easter Eggs the writers leave and (d) is hosted by a very lovely husband and wife.

The Americans is an amazing TV show, and Watching the Americans is an amazing podcast! It's great hearing a detailed recap of the episodes since they're so complex. The history and tech add some interesting information. This is a must listen to podcast if you love The Americans!

I've listened to several episodes and while they are obviously well prepared and have some good discussions as far as historical and technological references they go through each scene telling us what happens (do they write this down or are they looking at a script?). My complaint is that we watched the show, we already know these things. It gets a little grating. I wish there was more discussion and less telling of the plot. It's like sitting through a presentation with someone reading straight off the slides.

This is the best podcast covering "The American". There are a quite a few podcasts on "The American" but this one stands head and shoulders above them all. It is well prepared, has the perfect mixture of the show's cast and crew contribution, podcast follower's opinions and no snark, none. The last element is most important, it shows the respect the podcasters have for the show and the listeners. If you watch the show I urge to give this a try.

I could only last 2 minutes into this podcast. The female member laughs when there is absolutely no reason to laugh.

What a terrific way to supplement enjoyment of one of the great TV series ever. Helps prolong the pleasure by reliving the episode, as well as providing all kinds of promising speculation about what’s next for all of our favorite characters. The background information provided is fun. Best of all is when cast members show up to talk about their experiences and insights on the show. I can’t miss The Americans and now I can’t miss Watching the Americans either. Please keep doing the show until the Berlin Wall falls again (as it will in the final episode — mark my words)

Informative and entertaining!!!

While eagerly anticipating S4 of The Americans, I went in search of an enjoyable, cohesive, entertaining, and fresh podcast. I found all of those things while listening to the two part recap episodes of S3 and immediately subscribed. I am very much looking forward to listening to the weekly discussions during S4 and wish I would have discovered this podcast 3 seasons ago. Added note: I wish Kathleen was a member of the full time crew. Her knowledge of history added a lot to the pod. I'm hoping that she is a recurring guest!

Here you have informed adults who not only recap the episode but also go beyond to relate it to the times and relevant events, past and present. The discussion is really engaging, highly informed, witty as the podcasters highlight strands of story and character development to enrich our viewing of a terrific show. Unlike other podcasts, this one works for its audience and goes to the trouble to do a little research when the need arises because the hosts, like the viewers, are curious about the history. Count me as a devoted listener.

If you enjoy chatting about your favorite tv shows with smart, good natured folks, you'll enjoy this podcast. A great companion to the official Slate podcast and to the show itself.

This is my favorite podcast on The Americans. Chip and Sara offer a thorough recap and discussion about each episode and further, they provide historical context and explain the old-school technologies that were prevalent in the early 80s. It is thoughtful, and entertaining. They do their home work with each episode, and I have listened to every single one of them! Personally, I was captivated by this podcast during my drive from the great Smoky Mountains to Detroit Michigan last June. They made my driving miles fly by. I just listened to their recent show that compared The Americans to a similar program from the other side, Deutschland 83, and now I'm primed for season four. Keep up the great work guys!

Chuck and Sara make watching the Americans much easier, and more enjoyable. They do this by watching each episode multiple times while taking notes. They then discuss their findings, impressions, opinions, and theories in a very informative and delectable style. On occasion they have surprising guest interviews such as with Martha, or Pastor Tim, well they don't really have Martha and Pastor Tim but rather the actors who play roles in the Americans. I have discovered that I had missed a lot of the story by listening to Chuck and Sara, and am grateful they have explained the story. They are very good at pointing out seemingly insignificant points that eventually blossom into major events. I just want to say thank you to them, I am glad I listen to their pod cast and I am sure that you will feel the same after listening to them.

I’ve listened to a few podcasts for The Americans as I catch up on the series. I graduated high school about when the series is set, so I remember all the politics and culture pretty well. However, if you are a youngin’, and don’t remember who Andropov was (etc), the 80s politics and tech section of this podcast does a nice job of putting some of the less familiar names and objects in good context. The hosts are friendly and the sound quality top notch.

I discovered this podcast when my previous the Americans podcast ended mid-season because the show was getting too dark. I like this one better, though. I love the history and tech features and I appreciate that they post new episodes regularly and in a timely fashion. Keep up the good work

There are several podcast devoted to The Americans, but this one is the best and most thorough. I only started watching this show this season, but the hosts don't make me feel "too" left out. I especially like the historical context they bring.

Good commentary. Close readings. Companionable hosts. High quality recording. Knowledgable and thoughtful. Highly recommended!

I found your podcast quite serendipitously and am enjoying your incisive analysis. I have a few guesses about the show's ratings issues. First, I purchase a series pass on Amazon so that I can watch the show sans commercials. This means I am watching every show one day later on my Amazon Prime Video app. If there are a substantial amount of people doing this, the ratings will suffer. However, " if push comes to shove", I will make the sacrifice of watching "live" to save this extraordinary show! Second, I agree that making the show accessible on Netflix would expand the viewership by many millions. Last, I wish this series was on Showtime or HBO...those channels simply have more cache with your general cable viewing audience. This show is certainly as worthy, if not more so, than "The Affair" , "Masters of Sex" or the steadily deteriorating "Homeland"... Finally, before I found your podcast, I was constantly irritated by the execrable podcast that is a part of the After Buzz catalog. The vapid repartee led me to delete the podcast mid-season 1. I enjoy analysis that is informed, well presented and extremely entertaining. Your cast brilliantly satisfies this criteria. I listen to this careful recap podcast with extras like "yesteryear tech" and The Americans "news" every week during the show's season. I am an American and my husband is Russian. We have really lively discussions around this show and it's characters. It's really fun to watch this show with a mix of both cultures during the years we grew up. So much fun, looking forward to Season 3!!!!!

Excellent podcast! There are several podcasts devoted to The Americans--but this one is the best in my opinion. The hosts are well-prepared and entertaining. The recap is concise and discussion is thorough. I especially like having both the male and female perspective on the show. Issues of nudity, sexuality and the mistreatment of female characters are handled sensitively. Other podcasts tend to be juvenile about nudity and seem unaware of the sexual politics depicted on the show. The hosts of Watching the Americans are well-informed and insightful. Thanks for the compelling "watercooler" experience!

Watching “The Americans” is a difficult solo mission, luckily Chip and Sara are equipped to get listeners to think more about the context of each episode. Thinking about how the technology and certain historical events factor into the personal lives of two dedicated Russian spies really completes the viewing experience for me. Very well produced, very well organized, and their easy chemistry makes this podcast an essential watching companion!

I am a huge fan of “The Americans” and this podcast hits the sweet spot for my addiction! Sara and Chip do a really nice job of recapping the episodes and their discussions are insightful and fun.
