    Love this podcast!
Hearing this content is a great feeling for me. The earth needs us to become educated and supportive of how to keep trees alive!!!! This planet needs trees-not religion or money. We need people who can help create the future as a better place. Thank you. Plus- you are super sexy smart. šŸ˜œšŸŒ²

Iā€™d love the show if they didnā€™t constantly try to find a way to put down Christianity.

Lovely Nature Themed Podcast: Humorous and Informative!
Hi Casey and Alex! I stumbled onto this podcast by way of Alie Wardā€™s Ologies and Iā€™m working my way through the back catalogue. I consider myself a science and nature enthusiast and with each episode so far, I come away with increased biological and historical tree knowledge while being throughly entertained. This podcast does a fantastic job towards deepening our appreciation for the natural world around us. My fig tree šŸŒ³ and I are big fans! šŸ˜šŸ’œ

    Paid extras fail to deliver
Loved the show so signed up for paid extras, including the sticker of the month club- what a mistake. They are constantly starting up new things for what appears to be lots of reasons to constantly ask for more money but the stickers are 3 months behind! The communications are completely disorganized and the whole thing is so unprofessional. Paid subscribers are the last priority. Should have just stuck to the free content on this one and called it good!

    One of my favorites
Iā€™ve been listening for about half a year now and I make sure to catch every new episode and have listened to some of the previous recordings as well. One comment I really appreciate is on the last episode there was mention of the value in community college. That is the route I took when I went to horticulture school at a local community college and now manage a wholesale nursery. There is tons of value in an associates degree and a quality program can produce some of the best passionate employees. Thank you for a great show and ranking the sourwood so high. Itā€™s the jewel of the Appalachians!

    My new favorite show!
I could listen to Casey and Alex read a grocery list and it would be fascinating. Witty, interesting, and they know what theyā€™re talking about. Makes my drive to work fun - I especially love Caseyā€™s enthusiasm and energy.

This podcast is my #1 favorite podcast. I look forward to the day it posts every week. I let my grandson who is 9 listen because he loves trees so much. We just fastforward sometimes. But as an adult I love your real banter even if it is not good for the kids.

I love that these guys actually care about the correct pronunciation of the words they use!!! šŸ‘šŸ½

    Itā€™s grown on me šŸ™„šŸ¤—
I came here for educational deep dives on trees: identifying features, native/non-native regions, their cultural history, biological importance, any interesting ecological interactions, fun facts, etc. but thatā€™s not what they consistently deliver. Episodes vary from talking in great length about the tree of the episode to mostly discussing related topics and hardly talking about the tree. Overall I appreciate what I learn, enjoy listening, and have recommended it to others.

One Podcast to Rule Them All
I started listening to Completely Arbortrary pretty early on in the podcastsā€™ history and havenā€™t stopped tuning into the heir episodes since. Itā€™s always my go-to recommendation for someone needing a fun listen to break up the monotony of their day. Iā€™ve always been a huge nerd about all things plantsā€” given my name is Willow, itā€™s hard not to fall in love with a podcast dedicated to my distant (namesake) siblings. Alex and Casey have fantastic chemistry and make learning about trees fun and relatable for those of us initiated into botany. I absolutely LIVE for the cone ratings at the end. Casey always makes me giggle when he has some sort of petty arborist bone (or should I say bark?) to pick with the trees they discuss. Seriously, go listen. Also gotta shoutout the fact that not only did they produce my favorite podcast, but I also stumbled on Alexā€™s music as a byproduct and I havenā€™t been able to stop playing Goddess of the Dawn since!

    Nurture your inner geek
What a great podcast! I love the deep dive into a tree I'm actually starting to recognize some of them:-I wish I found an easier way to search I was trying to find out if they didn't episode when catalpa trees and all the trees of heaven. But whatever episode I listen to I learned a ton. Great for tree geeks everywhere and anyone else with a sense of curiosity

    Made My Job Easier
These two haveā€¦ somehowā€¦ harnessed the magic of science/natural science interpretation. I work in invasive species removal with a focus on plants and restoring native species. So, identification and knowledge of species is absolutely critical. I always struggled with grasses, ferns, and trees. Since totally bingeing this podcast, my heart has grown two sizes bigger for those woody guys providing me shade in triple digit temps. It has also allowed me to adjust my approach to removal of invasive tree species (and my coworkers too as I made them listen). Arbortrary has opened a chamber in my brain that allows me to view trees in a much more profound light. Thank you guys and the team for this delight.

    Helps my social anxiety šŸ„¹
Ya girl has extra dramatic social anxiety and, after over a year of consuming every podcast multiple times and reading suggested books, I HAVE FUN EXCITING CONVOS WITH NEW PEOPLE ABOUT TREES AND NATURE šŸ„° it fills my heart with such joy. Trees challenge me in more ways than ID and perspective. And I am so grateful to have been introduced to the arborist world thanks to Casey and Alex. You guys have a forever fan right here!! Fungal associate for life šŸ˜Š

    Conservatives hate this show
and I love that. As a biologist for the US Army, I spend every week explaining how environmental science works to stupid conservatives. Iā€™m always sure to use super scary words like ā€œevolutionā€ and ā€œclimate changeā€ when describing impacts of a given operation, just to see which officers twitch in their uncomfortable stupidity. Then I ask if they have a question, to which they either smirk in silence or shake their heads, as they lack any substantive data (or general wherewithal) to refute my presentations. Glad to read the comments and see these kids have the same effect on less intelligent listeners. Theyā€™re doing great and are very informative with regard to dendrology.

Love Clapp not so much the other guy
The title says it all. Loved Casey Clapp on Oligies. Casey has enough energy and personality to be a host on his own in fact enough of both for several hosts. Crowson adds a kind of bro vibe Iā€™m not loving. I may check back later but canā€™t take it right now. Casey go solo with guests! Thatā€™s what I was expecting. May try back later.
  • Arc6717
    Banter
I donā€™t really like the pointless banter that keeps interrupting any interesting facts on the tree at hand. The one guy repeats the comments of the other guy. Itā€™s annoying and not interesting to your audience! I do like their energy, but they both sound like 2 middle school dudes who donā€™t know what to say and are filling time. I think a script is in order. This hour plus podcast could be cut down to 15 minutes. I also think a lot of their podcasts lack facts, like the ā€œHow do trees die?ā€ They donā€™t ever bring on any experts, they just wing it, which is not good! It seems like the one guy does some research on IDing trees, but the other guy doesnā€™t know ANYTHING, heā€™s the dumb guy who just says he doesnā€™t know anything. Why is he on a podcast? This show is a HOT MESS!

    Very mixed feelings
Generally good information about trees. Definitely have very narrow and biased liberal feelings. If youā€™re tired of hearing people use every opportunity to whine about America, forestry or anything very typical of very basic and predictable Portland views, Iā€™d skip this podcast.
  • ludfisk
    Great informative podcast
If you are obsessed with trees like me or just like learning about nature and history, this is a really informative podcast! The hosts do a good job presenting dry facts in a fun way (although in my opinion sometimes the banter goes a little too long šŸ¤£). A solid 4 stars from me! With some tighter editing and more focus on the content itā€™d be a perfect 5.

Uses F word to educate about trees
Why? Just why? Who are you pandering too? Is your mission to eliminate every child and family that doesnā€™t appreciate profanity in their educational content? I would r been a regular listener otherwise.

    Entertaining and informative!
Iā€™m so happy that I found this podcast. I needed a way to identify trees, and Casey and Alex explain trees in a way that I can understand. And they are very funny! Thank you, Completely Arbortrary!

    First listen.
I really loved the pod. Still had the religion of Climate change but not so much I didnā€™t follow! There are Unbelievers for every religion yā€™all!!

    Listen to this orā€¦.
Honestly, amazing podcast. Hosts are fun, half the time I listen to it not for the trees but their ramblings. Itā€™s providing me with hours of entertainment. Butā€¦ that unbelievably annoying and awful casino commercial encouraging people to gamble is getting to me so bad I want to throw my phone against a wall lol. Please tell me Iā€™m not alone in this.
  • SirBulldogJones
    Absolutely lovely!
The hosts are absolutely lovely people! They work well together and compliment each other! They also approach every topic in a fun and interesting way that is very approachable! The theme songs for the games/segments are also super amazing!

These guys and Allie Wars are the reason I went to college, they helped me fall in love with learning by showing me that education can be awesome outside of a brick building and a school binder. Thank you guys so much. On my college quest to become a Wizard (philosophy and religion major) Also Alex your music slaps.

    Oregonians
They gave my favorite tree (southern magnolia) less than a 10/10 so I can not recommend because they are from Oregon but also I would give them a 10/10 because are a great tree podcast.

    Bonding with my daughter
Iā€™ve been listening to the podcast for a year. A friend from the local arboretum told me about it. I listen with my 8 year old. Recently Iā€™ve observed that she listens on her own while she crafts. I love that we can bond over learning about trees. (FYI: my daughter listens through your website, as she doesnā€™t yet have her own podcast app) Thanks!

    so much love!
I had the pleasure of chatting with Casey in person briefly at a garden event before realizing who he was, only to remember later that I had indeed heard both his Ologies episode and an episode of this podcast! He was so noticeably kind and gracious that I immediately re-looked up the podcast and am now addicted. Itā€™s my favorite thing to listen to by far, and itā€™s so much more enjoyable to know that the people behind it are just as funny, knowledgeable, and genuine in real life as they sound online! Thanks for finally getting a former east coast oak lover hooked on conifersšŸŒ²much love and many golden cones to both Alex and Casey, keep it upšŸ’š

Proud to be a tree geek
My daughter told me about this podcast. She graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies. I still canā€™t believe how much I enjoy this podcast! Alex and Casey have great rapport. Learning about trees is so fun. I can now understand why my daughter gets excited about trees. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

    LOVE.
I listen to a lot of podcasts. A lot. Self-betterment, true crime, theological, scientific. I think Iā€™ve reviewed less than one handful of them. I feel compelled to leave one for Completely Arbortrary because IT IS AWESOME. I would like a podcast over every topic done in the style of this podcast, please.

    Will help you pass class
ā€¦ if youā€™re in a tree identification class! (I signed up for one because of this podcast). This is a great show, Alex and Casey are incredible hosts and have great on air chemistry. I found this show a couple months ago and have been flying through episodes ever since. I love that I am more attuned to trees instead of viewing them as little more than greenery. My partner does not appreciate how long it takes us to hike now (I am constantly stopping to attempt to identify trees). This is a show for tree enthusiasts and tree skeptics, I highly recommend!
  • sakry94
    Great podcast!

    Trees
Easy, informative listening about trees and tree-related topics. The hosts playful dynamic and chemistry together is very enjoyable. Their sincerity about every topic and tendency to never sugar-coat stuff is really refreshing. I love how they delve into both the science as well as the folklore and cultural side of trees. It has everything that I never knew I wanted from a tree podcast :)

Plant a Tree while you listen!
Highly recommend listen to while digging a hole in your backyard for a new tree. Sadly I was planting a Heritage River Birch and the closes I could get to a perfect pairing was the Paper Birch episode. Iā€™ll look forward to the day I can listen to a River Birch episode while sitting under my backyard tree.
