You have definitely had a hand in helping me make my choice for doing this. I think a lot of your experience and info on the business and actual working in the trucking environment is very insightful.

    Question
Chris, I wanted to say how timely what you said on this podcast was for me! I have a question…. When you purchased MotorCarrierHQ and then decided to hire -was the company already making enough to cover these 2 new positions… salary, insurance, etc. Or, did you essentially know their value and trust that they would add that and therefore the company would quickly be able to generate more income? I have listened to you since the beginning and you have encouraged me in ways you can’t even imagine. In November of 2021, my wife and I bought a small Permit business from a lady who had started it in 1983… she had some great clients who were with her for 30+ years. We handle getting folks DOT/MC, do IFTA, tag renewals, etc. We are outside of Charlotte, NC. We love it… we love building relationships and helping these drivers! We still have mainly paper log clients so we stay busy with trip sheets! I said all this to say, we are at that point where we know if we want to grow that it will need to be more than myself and my wife…. She was a teacher in elementary school for 10 years but we prayed through it and decided to homeschool… we have a 9 year old girl, 7 year old boy and a 2 year old boy. We had originally purchased this business to replace her salary and the Lord has certainly done that! We are beyond thankful. I have worked the same 9-5 since college… it’s a plastic injection molding company and our main product there is oil seals that go on the front axle of trucks… freightliner, Peterbilt, kenworth, Volvo, etc. it’s a small family run business where Like a Swiss Army knife… I do a little of everything but my main area has been shipping and receiving… so I’ve built so many relationships over the years with local ltL drivers, dispatchers, and met many interesting and cool otr drivers… I still load and unload dry vans and run the forklifts like a champ. I’ve been around the industry for a while and I just wanted to say thank you for what you do!!!! The podcadst and especially the new entrant audit file system!!! I can’t tell you how many folks we’ve emailed the direct link!!!!!!! Also, I connect with you on the level of not buying the new big truck, (I drive a 1998 Landcruiser), many of the books you recommend have been books that have really shaped me, and just your overall attitude. If I ever could, I would love to connect with you and have the opportunity to just talk with you. Clay Gerringer Big Rig Permit Services bigrigpermitservices.

    What I was searching for
I’m so glad I found this podcast. I started listing a few months ago while I was in the process of getting my own authority while still driving as a company driver. I listened back to back while driving down the road, then would go home and look up the show notes from the episodes I had listened to that day. I have heard nothing but doom and gloom from people who started on their own, and saying it couldn’t be done, and just nothing but negativity. I was pleasantly surprised to finally find a podcast that shows it can be done. Yes, it obviously can be tough and it’s not easy at all, but Chris is honest about the highs and lows of it. I know how to drive a truck, but the owner mindset is something I knew I needed to work on. The financial episodes are my favorite because keeping track of my numbers is new to me. Chris and Craig walk you through it and explain it extremely well so it can be understood. Thanks for all your help guys. Looking forward to more episodes.

    The best
I finally caught up I Started listening from episode 1 and could not stop. The best so far, very transparent. Chris is very generous, other Guys make you pay fortune to teach these. Craig you are doing great and YES your face should be on the side of the trucks.

    Amazing Trucking Podcast
This is the best trucking podcast hands-down the amount of information that Chris provides is extraordinary. Also Craig is a phenomenal host not only does he ask great questions he asks the perfect questions there’s so many questions that Craig has asked Chris that I didn’t even think of. I’m currently an Amazon delivery driver and this podcast has motivated me to start getting into CDL school so I can get my class A CDL and become an owner operator once I have enough experience to qualify for insurance. The only bad thing I have to say is that I have listened to every single episode and I really want to start again at episode 1 but the first five episodes are missing I don’t know if they got deleted or if the memory was too high but I would really love to be able to listen to every single episode again so I can relearn information from the very beginning. Keep up the great work Chris and Craig!!

    Informative and entertaining
I am in the process of starting my own company as an owner operator. Specifically, hot shot trucking. The amount of information and encouragement I have gotten from these podcasts is incredible. When I begin my journey, there was a lot of anxiety and doubt as to whether or not I would truly succeed. After listening to these episodes and following along with the journey, virtually all doubts I’ve been eliminated. I have yet to take my first load, as I’m still in my 21 day waiting period. However, I’m now looking to the future with excitement. I fully expect to succeed, and then grow to a multi truck operation. Eventually, stepping up to semi’s. Thank you very much and I hope you continue doing this and wish you all success.

    Priceless
I would say I found Haulin Assets just over a year ago as I was researching a career change. I love to drive and knew that was something to look into. My ultimate goal is to own my own truck. I am a year and a half into the process of attaining that goal. I have 1 year driving OTR, however that was a straight truck. I am now 6 months into OTR with a mega carrier. I knew I needed experience with shippers and receivers and a trailer. So Chris when I make the Jump I will have slid my Tandems. 😁 (Honestly, that was one of the things I was most nervous about jumping onto the truck having never done it before) My goal is to have 30k saved up by March 2022 then take my next step and buy a truck. In my opinion this podcast is priceless for someone looking to take the leap. Thank you so much Chris for this content. RestlessTrucker

Caught Up & Ready to Roll
This podcast and company teaches company CDL drivers how to become owner operators step-by-step. If you feel like any of it is too complicated, or your time is more valuable, Haulin Assets has a sister company (Motor Carrier HQ) to help. They want us to be successful on our own. Each episode follows this owner of 5 companies through his journey of starting and driving his trucking company. He speaks from his experience in Insurance, Flying J, Factoring, Real Estate, Farming, and being an Engineer Officer in the Utah Army National Guard. There’s a price you have to pay to be successful, and Chris Vernon has really put his time & money where his mouth is on this one. Thank you!

    Organized, concise and helpful
I’ve made it up to the one year review episode, and I’ve found all of the information incredibly helpful. My husband and I plan to start a trucking business and this podcast provides an entire detailed game plan. To gather all of this information on my own would have take four times as long, and there still would likely have been key topics that I would have missed, so thanks for all the time put into organizing and laying out all of the steps. The banter keeps it light and entertaining. I look forward to the next year’s episodes!

I recently found your podcast on YouTube and grateful I did. Listened to about 25 episodes and learned a ton so far and plan to keep listening. Thank you guys for your effort in making the podcasts and show notes online. Plan on calling in this week for some assistance in getting my authority.

This is a must listen for anyone starting out
I am actively working on starting a trucking company. I was getting frustrated trying to make sense of everything I would need to do and what order and costs, etc. Then I found this podcast and their website - wow! Now I have confidence that I know what I need to do and what it will cost me!

I started listening a couple weeks ago and listen almost every day to get caught up. I really enjoy it and it’s very helpful for me getting started on my own. Thank you Chris AND Craig!! There Craig I gave you a shout out.

    So much valuable information
My husband and I just started our trucking company in July after two years of him being a company driver. We found this podcast in September and have been putting the information in it to good use! I’m so thankful for the honest and transparent insight Chris gives. Because of this, we chose to use Motorcarrier HQ to get our authority and are now using Trackin’ Assets for our bookkeeping. And shout out to Craig for helping those of us who are struggling to understand all this new information. I love how he will simplify a concept or relate it to something outside of the trucking industry. Amazing podcast! Keep up the good work!
  • Dev Zacharias
    Mr. Zacharias here.. again
Great info, he will need to lay on the ground to test the CMS. And then; take that junk back to the dealer. I have 3 trucks, 2 have no CMS, 1 does. Can you guess which one is hard to keep a driver in AND which one I have the most problems with?? No collision system will ever replace the human perception. It can be adjusted, but will still nearly cause wrecks because it sees things that aren’t even there. You’ve been warned! Lol the system is good in theory, but not in application.

Blessed to win the 2020 Transition Trucking prize and no truck payment, this podcast along with MCHQ has helped me start my business. Coming from a 20yr stint in the military, I’ve been able to apply that knowledge to progress in this industry! Thanks again guys and keep it coming!

    No better timing!
Wey & Co. LLC Man small world, i stumbled upon the podcast just a week or so ago, about 2 days after I had gotten everything rolling with Motor Carriers HQ. It then took me a few episodes to connect the dots and realize “Truckin assets” “Haulin Assets” light bulb went off in my head. Anyways small world as well, from SLC, and actually realized I had passed the MC HQ office the other, naturally I had to stop in and put a face to some of the people I've been working with, good people. My authority goes active early Feb. Can’t thank you guys enough for being so transparent about this otherwise extremely intimidating process/leap/risk whatever you may call it, and i personally look up to this podcast and the advice you put forth. Cheers and keep informing us haha!

    Excellent content
Stumbled on this podcast from a YouTube ad. So glad I did I am in the process of buying a truck to lease on to my current company. I’ve been a company driver for 15 years and always wanted to try being an owner operator. This podcast has eased my fears and given me confidence that I can be successful in this venture. May even try getting my own authority at some point.

    Like no other
I was a company driver the last 2 years and when I started planning on becoming and O/O of course these ads start popping up on my YouTube videos, as if my phone is listening, I started to listen to them and when I finished all the episodes I wanted to listen to other podcasts that can give me some info and I quickly realized that there’s no other like this one. Clear info on how to start and keep up with your business. I learned more about running a trucking company from this podcast that all the google search I’ve done. That Cost-Per-Mile is great, how can someone start a trucking business without knowing their CPM? Am glad Apple is spying on me and put their ad in front of me.

    Love this podcast.
I just started my trucking career about two months ago and I definitely want to be an Owner Operator and have my own authority as well. I started listening to this podcast about two weeks ago, from the beginning, and I’m hooked. I love what you guys are doing and I will be reaching out to you soon for some help with starting my own business. Keep up the good work guys.
  • TexasFugitive
    Deep insight into owner/operator entrepreneurship.
Excellent job, guys! Both these guys are smart as a whip. Craig is a great interviewer and Chris is a great communicator. Chris has been in the office side of trucking (specifically factoring and permitting it sounds like) for years and now he’s taking his show on the road as an owner/operator. It sounds like he’s hired a driver recently. I hope to hear he’s buying another truck soon! It’s interesting to hear all about the follies and financial rewards of owning a trucking business. I hope to learn more from Chris before I attempt this extraordinary leap myself.

Great Show for Trucking Start Up
This show is very well done, and steps through from the very first of going about starting a trucking business and what steps you need to take. Chris and Craig step through the dos and don'ts of the process. I wish they were daily. If you are wondering how to go about starting your owner-operator business and what is involved, this is a great resource. Bill Letourneau

    Supremely informative
I wanted to become a owner operator and was sent to this podcast by one of Chris’ companies when I was doing my own research. This is not a sales pitch but an actual informative exploration into starting a trucking company. Chris is extremely knowledgeable about the behind the scenes work that you need to know but don’t. It’s also fun to hear him learn the driving stuff and remember back on being a new driver. I decided to put off my startup because of financial reasons but still listen and fully intend to move forward with my own truck soon. Thanks for all the help guys!

    Great information
I know what I want to do and this podcast gave me the knowledge and resources to get there. I would be spending a lot more time trying to find the answers I needed without haulin assets, and probably would’ve cost me more money and mistakes by marking the wrong choices starting out.
